The Barber Shop
Hey! Let's go! It's Wednesday!
Time for us to play!
The shop is closed and we can have fun,
Because, my father's work is done!
We'll play "Barber" and cut our hair,
No one will see us or even care!
We'll cut off my curls, that are such a pain,
We'll look different and change our name!
Snip! Snip! As quick as a wink!
Two, little kids, who just didn't think!
Our hair was gone, but....our mothers were not!
They didn't like it and screamed, quite a lot!
Their voices were heard, all over town,
My mother cried and her mother frowned!!
My father...the barber...seemed less confused,
He reached, for the scissors and clippers, he used,
Tidied our locks and then got his broom,
The curls, on the floor disappeared very soon!
My mother grabbed one curl, to save it forever,
I didn't think this was so very clever!
She'd look, at that curl and then she would cry,
Then, she'd look at me...and give a big sigh!
These mothers made new rules, just for us!
No more "Barber Shop", or they'd make a fuss!!
We couldn't see each other, for a whole week,
Not to play "House"....or even "Hide and Seek"!
In time, they forgave us.... and I felt relief,
No more tangled curls........to cause me such grief!!
