Blessings in B.C.
No hope left! No use staying on the farm!
Chased away...by the "Depression Alarm"!
No rain! No crops! No hope! Told to move on!
On...and...on...until many miles were gone!
Hopping boxcars! Going to nowhere!
It did not matter......I just did not care!
"Keep moving....moving!" is what everyone would say!
"Keep moving! Keep moving!" Day after dismal day!
Then, one day, from the train, I could see,
Mountains, stretching north and south,
SO HIGH ABOVE ME!
The prettiest sight and just over there,
A little stream, splashing and looking so "fair"!
I stared! I marvelled! Jumped over it and then,
I jumped, into that water, again and again!
So plentiful! How could this ever be?
A precious gift, so very special for me!
Water! Water! In the dry, summer season!!
I'd never leave B.C. again, for any reason!

This poem, relates to a story, about a true situation, in the life of
an
eighteen year old, who left a farm, in the west, to seek his fortune,
in a
part of Canada, where water was plentiful.....British Columbia. This
is his
tale....as told to others, long ago.
