gonesout GOING SOUTH IN WINTER

All of Canada's Snowbirds fly away,
To the south, where they bask and play,
Soaking up sunshine...free from the cold,
Not very challenging! Not very bold!
Imagine avoiding a Canadian winter here!
Where snowbanks are high and even the deer,
Have problems finding food to suffice,
And cars and people skid on smooth ice!
Where energy costs soar out of sight,
You turn up the "fuel bill" each frosty night!
Where sniffles and sneezes are quite in fashion,
And keeping warm is the latest passion!
Go south? NO! NO!
You must not go!!
You are a Canadian....rugged and strong!
You're used to hardships all year long!
You can't run away to avoid all of this!
Your natural, pioneer spirit would miss,
All of the challenges, that Winter brings,
So just stay right here, with seasonal things!
Throw wood on the fire and get out your shovel,
Knit a turtle-neck sweater and fix up your hovel!
Do not complain! Cough syrup you can take,
If you get too bored, bake a pie or a cake!
Get out the catalogue and order some seed,
You'll be content.....and feel there's no need,
To escape from such a beautiful place,
Running away would bring you disgrace!
Snowbirds! Stay home! Where you belong!
And sing "O Canada"! It's your favourite song!
