It Is Well!

So long ago, in Chicago Town,
Lived a happy man, of great renown,
He had assets... a boy and four, little girls,
With delightful ways and soft, blond curls!
All was well....until that dreadful day!
When a great fire destroyed, all in its way!
His life became a symbol of "loss"
Many nights, he would toss and toss!
Such emotional pain!
When Death struck again and again!
He buried his small son, in a grave nearby,
And before his tears were even dry......
His wife and girls drowned at sea,
Nothing but tragedy! How could this be?
But....he did not allow his FAITH to flee,
His belief in CHRIST, could set him free!
He sailed, on a ship, to the very spot,
A watery grave....of those he loved a lot!!
There he wrote beautiful words, we now sing,
That are praises for his HEAVENLY KING!
In spite of torment, he did write,
"It is well with my soul", on that dismal night!
A lesson for all, who face troubled waters...
Family distress...loss of sons or daughters!
This broken man went on, to do great things,
Helping orphan children, to find "roots" and grow "wings"!
An Angel of Mercy...because GOD kept him whole,
And so, IT IS WELL....WITH HIS SOUL!

This Christian man did not let Death destroy his life....even when Life
gave him much pain and sorrow. His great Faith made it possible, for him to
survive....and go on to do even greater things for mankind.
It would be easier to just give up, when everything goes wrong....but,
often better days are just around the corner. I think he felt, that one day
he would be reunited, with his children and perhaps he did good works, so
that he would be guaranteed a place in Heaven. His dedication to new goals,
would help him to face each day. When I feel, that Life has let me down, I
will try to remember this heroic person and it will spur me on to renewed
Faith and  new horizons.
