JACK MINER'S BIRD SANCTUARY

At this time of the year, Canada honors this man's name,
Without efforts regarding fowl safety, 'twould not be the same,
Our first serious promoter of wildlife , this environmentalist,
Protected the wild flocks, so they would continue to exist!
The "Jack Miner Sanctuary".....a refuge...a haven for the birds,
Now a museum, too......with books...containing his words!
In Kingsville, Ontario, his life's dedication will remain,
And ninety-three years later, we still treasure his name!
Once, a great deer hunter and innocently selling his game!
Two children and a brother died! His life was never the same!
So, he decided to promote and protect.....instead of kill,
These new plans materialized, for strong was his will!
A grandson and family continue this commitment, today,
Carrying on his wildlife "dream", in the usual way!
A spiritual challenge, due to his emotional distress,
Brought personal introspection and a much purer quest!
A complete reversal, in his lifestyle and true destiny,
Halting much extinction, of the wildlife, you see!
When I hear the wild geese honking, high above me,
I think of Jack Miner and the huge flocks that will be,
Heading north and south, in seasonal patterns....and free!
With our respect for life and nature, it will continue to be!
All forms of life, interact with each other and depend,
When these forms are gone, our own life will end!
We must strive to leave this planet a better place,
For all creatures......and also the future, human race!!
In everything and in every way, we must protect our earth,
This is a serious fact, not a topic for mere mirth!!
Foolish eradication should not classify as "sport"!!
We must co-operate, with the Environmental Report!
Each man, woman and child can be more aware!
Each, intelligent human can prove, that they care!!
We can co-exist with nature and reap earthly gifts!
The gentle sounds, in the wild, will soothe and uplift!
