CHURCHILL, far north, on the shores of Hudson Bay,
Once, 7000 inhabitants, with good "take home" pay!
Now, only 500 of the population remain,
Life for these people, is not quite the same!
Polar Bears were causing everyone such great fear,
Thousands arriving, two or three months of the year!
Circling the town....causing concern for everyone,
Each adult must be alert....with his own, ready gun!
At first, they shot bears, that came into the town,
Such a sad thing......it made everyone frown!
So, they decided to tranquilize them instead,
Take them 30 miles away and not shoot them dead!
One man enjoyed Polar Bears, as most of us do,
He built many Tundra Wagons, to transport folks like you,
To travel, in the Arctic, onto the thick ice and snow,
Right into the middle, of where Polar Bears go!
Yes! By the thousands......everyone came!!
Too many to ever remember each name!
They all loved this adventure, into the northern wild,
Everyone! Yes, everyone! Each man, woman and child!
Now, they return every year, just to see,
How many more Polar Bears there just might be!
They snap pictures and purchase keepsakes, then they go,
Back to their homes, far from our cold ice and snow!
The town, that was doomed, is booming right now,
Dollars are pouring in and everyone says how,
The Polar Bears saved this town from definite disaster,
Nothing else could have promoted it faster!
They didn't need guns, just cameras to "shoot"!
For all animal enthusiasts, this method would suit!
There are ways to co-exist, respect and still win,
Contributing to extinction, is a dreadful sin!
So, if you've nothing exciting to do,
Grab your quilted parka and your warm mittens, too!
Go north, to the "Largest Polar Bear Zoo"!
It will be an exciting adventure for you!!
