A STEER SALE STORY
(About the Depression in Canada in the 30"s)
A widow shipped a big, prime steer from Saskatchewan,
It arrived at the Winnipeg stockyards, just after dawn,
She was told, that she would get a better price there,
And she needed funds....was told the price would be fair,
But, now lower prices, weight loss, trucking and sales commissions,
Left this poor widow, without ideal conditions!
A bill soon came and without a word of a lie,
She owed them $6.00....it's enough to make you cry!!
Being honest, she hustled and soon the bill was paid,
A receipt was sent and on the tablecloth laid,
She framed it and placed it on her parlour room wall,
It was noticeable there, between the kitchen and hall!
Everyone who asked, laughed as she told her Steer Story!
An expensive comedy....her only claim to fame and glory!

It seems that Murphy's Law remains constant, especially in hard times.
When
things start to go wrong.....there is an avalanche! The widow in this
true
tale needed the money desperately and ended up paying, to have her
steer go
to the stockyard. Nothing gained. In fact, it cost her money to send
this
animal to market.
She didn't lose everything, because she still had a sense of humour,
which
always comes in handy, keeping us free from a gloomy outlook and deep
depression. I guess it is easier to go through hard times, when you
have
lots of friends, with similar problems. If you were the only one, it
might
seem almost impossible.....hence, the origin of "misery likes company".
