BILL, EDWARD S.,was born in Vermont in 1833. At age 28, in August, 1862, he enlisted in Co. F 8th Minn. Regiment. He was discharged with Regiment in August 1865.
CHILD, HENRY D.,at the age of 33 he enlisted on December 30, 1863, in Co. D Minnesota Volunteers. He was musterd in January 5, 1864 in Brackett's battalion Calvary. He also served in the Indian Expedition in July and August of 1864. He was discarged for disability in December on 1864. He had come to Castle Rock township in 1855 where Civil War services were accredited. In 1857 he settled in SW Section 35 Where John Day now lives.
CHILD, TEMPLE ARTHUR,Minnesota in Spanish American War of 1898, born in Castle Rock, residence Northfield; at age 25 enrolled April 29, 1898 at Fairbault; mustered in May 6, 1898 Camp Ramsey; mustered out November 5, 1898 at New Ulm. From Minnesota Historical Society. He is buried in the same lot as Henry Child and the dates suggest that Temple could be a son. Perhaps lived on the Radmann farm.
CLARK, ALEXANDER, of Ireland. Enlisted at age forty-two in August, 1862 in Co. A, 7th Regiment Minnesota Infantry. He was disabled and dicharged in April, 1863. The lot in Red Rose has eight Clarks buried in it. One is the late Chauncey whom many knew locally.
COWELL, THOMAS F., Corporal at age 27, born in England in 1833, he came to Waterford in 1856. Pre-empted 160 acres and purchased another farm. Coming directly to their claim, Thomas and his wife made their first habitation on a slab shanty 12 by 12 feet, and there lived until their house was built in 1868. Enlisted in Co. B, 3rd Minn. Infantry in 1861 when 27 years old. Was taken prisoner, going without food for 3 days, when he was paroled; he was slightly wounded in another battle and was mustered out November 1864. They had 9 Children amon whom were Mary, William, Edith, Ella, Mabel, Lawrence W.
DANIELS, CLARENCE L., Born in Vermont in 1821. pre-empted farm in Scotia in 1854. Married Celestia Slocum in 1842. Mr. Daniels served about 3 years in the Civil War. He enlisted at age 42 in 1863 in Co. F, 1st Regiment Mounted Rangers.
DIXSON, G. ARTHUR, Born in Canada in 1838; came to Waterford in 1863; bought his farm in 1868. Enlisted in Co. I, 1st Regiment, Minn. Heavy Artillery in 1865; served until the close of hostilities. He married in 1860; had 2 daughters, Mary F. (Garvey) and Lola C. (Withers).
DODDS, CLARENCE L., was born in Northfield in 1894, grandson of the John Simpsons. He enlisted in World War 1 and seved as purchasing agent and billeting officer. He travelled with a French "Commandant", purchasing horses for both the French and the American forces. Clarence was a Lieutenant.
ECKLES, CAPT. W.H., It is believed his daughter, Miss Parentha Eckles, married A.L. Dixson, Jr. The two families are buried in the same lot.
GRAY, WILLIAM A., Born in New York in 1831; came to Waterford in 1855; pre-empted farm. In February, 1865, enlisted in Co. C, 192nd New York Volunteers; was mustered out May, 1865; returned to his farm in Waterford. he represented this district in the legislature in 1872-73 and was Justice of the Peace for many years. He married Miss L.A. Stocking in 1878 and had one child, Roy E. Gray.
HARKNESS, FRANK, Member of the 20th Engineering Co. in World War 1, serving in France. He was a member of the U.S. Army Band.
INGHAM, WILLIAM F., Born in Conn. in 1831. Enlisted in Co. B, 3rd Wisconsin Regiment in 1862, serving until the close of the war.
JOHNSON, JEROME L., Born in Wisconson in 1850. His mother died when he was one year old, made his home with an uncle in Illinois. At age fifteen, entered army in Co. I, 7th Minnesota Regiment, and was mustered out after 2 months service. He found his father in Wisconson after 17 years of seperation. In 1875, came to Waterford, married E.L. Cowell, purchased a farm. They had 2 children, J.L and M.J. Mrs. Johnson was a sister of A.E. Cowell.
KINYON, WM. L., No service record is avaliable. It is thought he at one time owned the James Dilley farm, selling it prior to Sherm Van Slyke's possession. Mr. Kinyon served as a supervisor in Waterford Township in 1879-1880.
LANPHEAR, EDGAR C., Enterd in 1918 at twenty years of age. Served with Co. E of the 54th Pioneer Infantry, Later with the Military Police.
RADCLIFFE, DAVID F., We are sorry we cannot find amy history of this Veteran. We checked at the Veteran's office in Hastings as well as at the Dakota County Hisorical Society in St. Paul. No Luck.
RICE, IRA, Grandfather of Mrs. Zella Rice Slocum. He had a great-grandson, Warren Slocum, now deceased, and two great-granddaughters, Flora (Mrs. Edward Newman) and Marian (Mrs. Joe Keilen). They at one time lived in the "rock quarry" house near the G.T Schjeldahl Co. According to the Minnesota in Civil and Indian Wars 1861-1865, at age 29 he joined the First Regiment of Heavy Artilley, Roster of Co. E. Mustered out September 27, 1865 From Minnesota Historical Society.
ROUSE, HENRY R., Minnesota in Civil and Indian Wars 1861-1865. At age 36, joined the 2nd Battery of Light Atillery, Roster of 2nd Battery, Mustered in February 20, 1862. mustered out March 28, 1865. Comments: Expiration term of service from Minnesota Historical Society.
SACKETT, CHAUNCEY B., Of New York at age 17, enrolled in Co. A. 7th Regiment Infantry Minnesota. Volunteered in August '62. He was mustered in November '62. He was disabled. He died at Mankato June 11, 1863.
SACKETT, GEORGE W., Of New York at age 27 enrolled in Co. F. 8th Regiment Infantry Minnesota. Volunteers in August '62. He was mustered in October '62. Discarged for disability December 8, 1863.
SIMPSON, JAMES P., Native of Illinois. Enlisted at age twenty-three in November 20, 1862, and mustered in November 24, 1862. Served with Co. F. 1st Regiment Mounted Rangers. He was discharged with disability on April 21, 1863. He was a cousin of the Howland brothers and sisters.
SLEETH, SAMUEL, Born in New York in 1841. When 23, in August 1864, enlisted in Co. E. 185th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged May 1865. He was present at the surrender of General Lee.
SLOCUM, JR., ELEAZOR B., One of the early settlers, previous to 1836, in Sciota. Had fine farm, added to original purchase. He is the only Veteran of the War of 1812.
STEPHENS, WILLIAM L., Was born in Penn. in 1837. Here he grew to manhood, then removed to Rice County and bought eighty acres of land, on which he lived until 1862. He enlisted in Co. A. 7th Minnesota. He was in the Indian War at the time of the taking into captivity five hundred Indian's, thirty-eight of whom were executed at Mankato. in 1863, he went south and participated in several conflicts and was mustered out October 31st, 1865. Returning to Rice County, Minnesota, he engaged in the meat buisness, thence in 1875 to Waterford, purchasing a farm. In 1869, he married Miss Florence R. Ingram of Fairbault. They had 2 daughters.
STOCKING, J.T., No war history here either. We note in Wm A. Gray's story that Mr.Gray married a Miss. Stocking, and that they had on son, Roy E. One lot in Red Rose Cemetery had the Stockings, Grays and a Bowe in it. There are Gray and Stocking ownerships shown in the Waterford History book in the Devney farm story.
TRICHIE, ELDO, First casualty in World War 1 in Northfield Area. he was the son of the C.F. Trichie's of Waterford.
