I know that my photos are cute. Don't let that fool you. Bullies are not for everyone! We can be very stubborn and headstrong. Bullies are not easy to train. We are only interested in pleasing ourselves! I have gained a "Basic Obedience Certificate", but it took a lot of work and patience from my "human". She was hoping to gain a "Companion Dog Title" in Obedience with me, but I'm just not interested in competition obedience trials - I'd rather be at the beach!
Please learn as much as you can about my breed by reading books, visiting dog shows and talking to breeders and visiting Bull Terriers in Cyberspace before deciding whether a bully is the breed for you.
In February 2002 Jessie was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle which causes the heart to enlarge and not function properly. Jessie was given 6 months, 12 if she's lucky to live. My partner, Allen and I were devastated. I set out to learn as much about the disease as I could. Jessie is on heart meds as well as lots of vitamins and herbs to help her heart. Jessie made it to her 11th birthday on 27th September. She is slowing up, but is still as cheeky as ever, and enjoys the beach every day. Another milestone was Christmas Day. Of course she's spoiled rotten.
Jessie passed the 2 year mark since diagnosis in February 2004! She has a lot of fluid in her belly now, and gets tired very quickly. She still has a zest for life and being at the beach with her mates every day. Jessie hardly has a grey hair, and certainly doesn't act her age. We often get asked "Is she having puppies?" Unfortunately that's not the problem :-(
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We want our girl to be with us, happy and healthy for a long while yet.
Unfortunately Jessie lost the battle with heart disease on 2 February 2005. She nearly made 3 years since she was given "6 months, 12 if she's lucky". She went doing what she loved. It was sudden and she suffered no pain. She was barking at the dogs next door to my parents, which was a ritual when we arrived. It was all a big game, her old heart just gave out. She has been cremated and her ashes will be mixed with those of her mates Holly, Scruffy and Nikki who died last year and spread at the beach which they all so loved.
Please don't feel sad for Jessie. She had a wonderful life. Raise a glass to her. Celebrate her life. "Queen Jessie" had 12 years and 4 months with us and lived life to the fullest.
In April a new little 8 week old bully girl entered our lives. Her name is Pele and her webpage can be viewed at "Pele's Pad"
She has some big pawprints to fill.
