3. Theophilus Parsons b.28june1789-d.18jan1883,m.Tempe Goodwin*(b.oct1797-d.8jan1890). They moved to Jefferson Co.,AL in 1835 from Laurens County, SC. Both are buried at Old Parsons cemter, Lock 17,Backyard of Rainey residence.
Children of Theophilus and Tempe Goodwin:
i. Oliver Perry Parsons see info below.
ii. Sandel (sometimes spelled Sandal) married William Higgins, son of
Thomas Higgins and Millie Stone. Some Higgins family researchers
list him as William David Higgins. He was born about 1828 (1850
Jefferson Co., AL census). Family researchers list his place of birth
as South Carolina as does the 1880 Jeff. Co., AL census. However,
the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census records report his place of birth as
Georgia. I have deferred to Higgins researchers on place of birth as
well as the middle names for both, but he may have been born in
Georgia during a migration period. Sandel was born about 1825-1828
(her age varies from 1 to 4 years older than William on the census
records) in South Carolina. The Higgins researchers state her name as
Sandel (or Sandal) Elmira. I've never seen the names Elmira or David
in official records. I have heard some call her Mira (or Myra) but
according to Jefferson Co., AL Marriages she is listed as Sandel M.
The record I copied at the LDS Library in Mesa, AZ in 1991 from
"Alabama Records" state: "Sandel M. Parsons & William Higgins,
26 May 1845, solemnized 29 May, by A. J. Waldrop, C.C., p. 269."
It came from either Book 2 or 3. I failed to note that at the time and
need to recheck it. 26 May would have been date license was issued.
She has middle initial "L" in 1850 census and "M" in 1860 and 1870
(initials only, S. M.). The 1880 census incorrectly lists her as
Sarah.
In Sylvan Springs Cemetery listings she is Sandlin Higgins (1825-
1902) and he is William Higgins (1828-1890), according to David
Reed's cemetery survey completed 9 Apr 2000.
