PREFACE |
Footprints on a Hill is the story of the Skull Creek Rural Elementary School which was established in 1886 in the Northwestern end of Austin County, Texas. In this Texas Sesquicentennial Year, it is fitting that we pay tribute to the little school house which stood on a hill for 58 years. It’s doors were closed forever in 1944, but it’s memory lingers on in the minds of those who had the privilege if implanting their footprints on that hill. |
Over the 58 years that the Skull Creek School existed, students walked, ran, skipped, and jumped all over the school playground (often in bare feet) and left their footprints in the sands of time. For this reason the title Footprints On A Hill was chosen as an appropriate title for this story. |
Prudent attempts were made to ascertain and state the facts as accurately as possible. Any errors, omissions, or misstatements of facts are unintentional. Corrections are welcomed and considerations will be given in order to present the history of the Skull Creek School factually. |
