Ok, let's look at the basic story first: "I looked and saw a great storm coming from the North, with clouds and lightning and the clouds glowed like amber....
From the midst of the clouds, four beings came that looked human except they all had four faces and two sets of wings...
When I looked at them I saw four wheels on the ground under them...each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise inside it.
The spirit of the four living beings was in the wheels, so where ever the spirit went the wheels and the beings went, too.
And high above this was a figure whose appearance was like that of a man. from his waist up he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like fire. From his waist down he looked like burning flame, shining with splendor."
(there's more....if you want the whole thing, feel free to read it, it is the first chapter of Ezekiel in what is known as the "Holy Bible")
Well, first of all, I think it needs to be said that if anyone today claimed witness to any of the above, that person would be quickly screened for insanity at worst, or drug use, at best. at the very least, we would question whether that person had a solid grip on reality. But let's just say that the above is truth, and Ezekiel did indeed see this incredible site.
I'm sure nearly everyone has heard of this being an extra-terrestrial event. Maybe. regardless, I think we can all agree this is not something that exists on this earth - neither at present time nor in Ezekiel's time. If it were, I dont think Ezekiel would have found it interesting enough to write about it. But I do not presume to know what was in his mind. I am only writing my own opinion.
Why not a UFO? technically speaking, Ezekiel's wheel was not a UFO, since the term "UFO" contains the word "un-identified" and Ezekiel identified what he saw very well. He did not understand it, but that is a different matter.
I'd like to mention, once time in a restaurant I heard a woman say she did not believe in UFO's, because there is no mention of them in the bible. From the above statement, I suppose that could be up to interpretation. I guess she doesn't believe in automobiles or computers either. But I digress, and again, that is for another time.
Let's talk about this wheel. Not the creatures, and not the "figure of the man". Just the wheel, for now.
It is said that each creature had a wheel, and each wheel had another wheel inside it, and both wheels moved in counter-movement to each other. all four creatures had one of these "dual" wheels, and they could move in any direction without having to turn.
It also says the wheels sparkled like crystal and the rims were covered with eyes all around.
I'm going to take a moment here to consider one or two ideas on the possible engineering of this.
The wheels. One on the outer, one on the inner side, both of them turning in opposition to each other. I'm no engineer, neither am I a mechanic, but I grew up with 3 brothers and a dad who let me watch them take care of their cars, and this sure sounds like motors (or maybe turbine engines) to me.
Let's think about the "eyes" a bit. Ezekiel also said "their wings roared like waves...". I dont know anyone who has not at least seen pictures of fancy sport cars. Some of them have "gills". They are intake holes. Cars also have a tube called an exhaust port. The same for the technologically advanced Jet Fighters. So why can't the "eyes" have been something of the like?
Now let's consider the wings. In Ezekiel's words "when they stopped, they let down their wings." I just have two things to say about that.
Back to the sport cars. car lovers all over will know which car I refer to when I say I have seen pictures of cars on which the doors open out. They look like wings. (these cars also happen to roar) I have also seen film of yet more jet fighters whose wings actually fold when not in use.
Consider the following, if you would. that modern humanity has a lot of technology that we take for granted as basic, albeit interesting science. we understand it and accept it as life today.
But take a man from 15,000, or so, years ago and show him like as it is now. He will not understand any of it, and would probably consider us gods.
Why should it be any different for Ezekiel (and others)?
Now I know I can expand this two directions. One way is extra-terrestrial intervention. Somebody "out there" got involved in human affairs. From the look of it all through the bible, (if these instances are to be taken as fact) they got involved quite a lot! If this is so, I wonder why they stopped?
The second way is to delve into some things I said earlier, having to do with people from the past, and also things like this not existing. I did not say that this wheel is something that can not exist, ever.
who's to tell what humans can develope in the future? I use to be aquainted with someone who said "what Man can concieve and believe, he can achieve." If you scoff at that, take a good look around, then take a look at some old sci-fi movies.
This would indicate that humans will develope two things (more than two, but the two for this article).
The indications are that humans will probably develope time travel, and also delusions of god-like grandeur, and so start interfering with our own past.
Now before you jump on me, I do know the arguements about interfering with the past. I also know the other one about the past being un-reachable. That's not what this article is about.
Personally, I really can't stand the idea of the "closed loop" where time is concerned. But who knows?
The question of this article was "Just what was Ezekiel's wheel? I dont have an answer. I only have a lot of questions and thoughts, and an open mind hungry for knowledge and wisdom.
