Ribbon Rose Hat Box

Materials:

8x4 inch Hatbox 26-28 18-inch pieces of assorted French wired ribbon
5 1/2 yards of 1 1/2-inch-wide pale aqua French wired ribbon
5 yards of 1/4-inch-wide celery antique silk ribbon
2/3 yard of 1-inch-wide green satin ribbon
3/4 yard of 3/4-inch-wide sage embroidered double-edged ruffle tape
3/4 yard of 2-inch-wide Battenberg lace
25x7 1/2-inch rectangle cream-and-dusty rose striped cotton fabric
Spray Adhesive
1 square white felt
Scissors
Glue Gun

Directions:

Glue 1/4 inch of satin ribbon to top side of box, folding and gluing remaining width to top and creating a finished edge.

Make 26-28 ribbon roses. (See Below) Cut aqua ribbon into 5-inch lengths. To make leaves, for a figure-8 loop with each piece. Glue to underside of each ribbon rose. Glue ribbon roses to box top to cover completely. Position gentle loops of 1/4-inch antique silk ribbon on box lid, among roses and leaves. Use dots of hot glue to secure in place.

Apply spray adhesive to fabric rectangle. Center and smooth fabric around box, allowing 2 inches to fold inside the box. Fold side seam under and secure with hot glue. Fold excess fabric at both top and bottom and press into place.

Glue embroidered ruffle tape around side of box top. With hot glue, secure lace around top edge of box bottom.

Trace box bottom onto felt square. Cut out, making circle slightly smaller. Glue to bottom of box.

Ribbon Roses:

Cut one 24-inch piece of wired ribbon. fold one end of ribbon over itself about 1/4 inch, pressing hard to secure wire.

Gently pull one wire from the opposite end, gathering the ribbon as you go. Pull approximately 9 inches of wire through.

Roll pulled wire section to form a rose. Finish rose by twisting extended wire around the base of the ruffled ribbon several times to secure.
