Army Life 101 - There's a special place in heaven for an Army Wife!

Army Community Services

If you are new to the military, or just need information on just about anything, the Army Community Services (ACS) office is a great place to start. ACS, founded in 1965, offers information and referral services in addition to a variety of other services to the military community. This military-sponsored agency is staffed by civilians and volunteers. You can receive welcome packets and information on military installations world wide. Many posts offer welcome briefings to familiarize the newly arrived service members and family with the area. If your household goods have yet to arrives, most ACS's have a lending closet packed with basic necessities ( i.e. dishes, cookware, folding tables, cots and futons, car seats, cribs…) you will need to tide you over. There are many programs offered through ACS that are worth checking out, classes on parenting skills, financial planning, communication, relationship building, job search programs and assistance for military spouses and outreach programs to help meet new people.

The Army Family Team Building Program, also offered through ACS, teaches necessary skills to thrive in the military environment. The Army Family Action Plan is a grassroots program to help the military family assist in solving the problems affecting their life. Operation Ready helps soldiers and family members prepare for deployment.

ACS offers assistance to family members experiencing emergencies with Army Emergency Relief (AER). Any soldier with a bona fide financial emergency can turn to AER for assistance. AER offers grant and loans to the service members in need.
