My mothers maiden name is Caldwell. I have been unable to trace my Caldwells beyound David Caldwell b. abt 1767 VA. David 1st married Elizabeth Kelly 05 May 1794 Knox Co. TN. David
and Elizabeth Kelly were divorced in 1797. David
2nd married Elizabeth Givens 25 Oct 1800 in Blount Co., TN. I am descended from the second marriage. I have also seen another story of the Origins of the Caldwell family. It came from a book by the name of "David Caldwell 1705-1781 And His Descendants in
he United States of America" edited by William W. Caldwell published 1987. The story was said to have come from "Historical Sketch of the Caldwell Family" By William Arthur Porter, Minneapolis, MN. The copy printed in the book came from a copy in the poss
ssion of Mr. George E. Caldwell, Boc 133, Williamsville, IL. Date of the original typewritten sketch is not given.

What a exciting web sit to find! I have very little Caldwell history to go on. If anyone could help, it would be wonderful. My grandfather was a George Alexander Caldwell, born in Scotland, who married Elsie Irene Hutchings (also from Scotland, possibl
born in Leeds, England). They were married in Toronto, Ontario. A family rift has limited all information past this point. I think my grandfather's father was John Caldwell from Glasgow, a butcher who supplied the armies during WWI. I aso think there wa
a brother John. Any assistance with either "John" could send me happily on my way. Thanks!
