I was born in Needham, Massachusetts, lived in Monterey, California while at the Naval Postgraduate School, and Newport, Rhode Island while at Department Head School and The Naval War College .
We now live in Virginia Beach, Virginia for the next 18 months
I've volunteered for Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society for about 4 years. I was the Publicity Chair at the Norfolk, Virginia office (Hampton Roads Auxiliary) and was a receptionist and the Publicity Chair for the Monterey, California office. The Society helps sailors and marines, their families, retirees, their families, and active duty reservists in times of financial distress and hardship by loans and grants (i.e. helping to pay for a way home for emergency leave for the death of a family member). All money used for aid and Society operations is from payback of loans and donations. Absolutely no money is received from the federal government. For spouses, it is a great chance to volunteer because the Society reimburses child care. Without that, most of their volunteers could not donate their time. They are always looking for knitters and crocheters to donate handmade items for Baby's First Seabag, a layette that is received by pregnant servicemembers and spouses who attend a Budgeting for Baby class (presently E6 and below but will be open to all servicemembers and spouses as of January 1, 1998). NMCRS will donate the yarn for your blanket or sweater set and you can earn volunteer hours for completion. I have logged almost a thousand hours and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Please go visit their site mentioned above and learn more about them.

The music you are listening to is Bryan Adam's "Everything I Do." It's "our" song that my husband and I played for our first dance at our wedding.
