Introducing...
Shen Cen Cen

Now officially...
Jade Angellaya

That was then
This is now

This page is dedicated to my daughter Jade. She was born January 25th, 1997 in Bengbu, Anhui, China. She spent the first year of her life in a Chinese orphanage. I received the referral December 22nd, 1997, and the photo on the left accompanied it. (She was about 2 1/2 months old in the photo.)

Her Chinese given name, CenCen, means "Little Hill." I named her Jade because the stone Jade is highly valued in China, and also, the name Jade is a combination of her Grandfather's name, Glade, and her Mother's name, Jodi (that's me). Her middle name, Angellaya, is after her Great Grandmother, whose maiden name is Angell.

Jodi and Jade, April 10, 1998

Jade is a delightful child. She loves to smile and laugh, and seems to relish life. At 13 months, she didn't even know how to roll over, but now she's learning and experiencing all kinds of new things, and loving every minute of it. She started crawling 14 months, and walking at 17 months. Now she runs and terrorizes. She has a natural agility and flexibility, and I have a sneaking suspicion that she is the daughter of Chinese circus performers ;-)
