Daventry Poodles is located Rappahannock County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We built a log home on about 30 acres, one mile off the nearest paved road.
Daventry Poodles was established in 1981 with our first Toy Poodle, Lady Faire of Daventry, Champion of Our Hearts, and the one who started it all, a pet quality poodle. We subsequently acquired red/apricot Toy Poodles, and a brown Toy bitch, Holly (Ch. Camelot's Make Mine Mink), who came to us from Marvin and Nancy Fishler of Camelot Kennel. Holly was our first champion. When hereditary eye problems occurred in the apricot/red line, we ended our Toy Poodle line, and we began to investigate various breeds looking for a new dog to show.
We couldn't find a breed we liked more than poodles and were
introduced to Connie Rodgers who was owner of Denevillette Standard Poodles. Our first Standard Poodles were Sasha and Eric. Eric (Am. Can. Ch. Denevillette Dapper Daventry) [black] was our first Standard Poodle Champion. He was shown by Kaz Hosaka and finished quickly as a puppy over the summer of 1989, and was then sent to Terri Taplan in Canada to finish there as an adult. Our second champion was Trish (Ch. Denevillette Enchanting Eve). Trish [black] came to us already pointed, and was finished by Jim Wilworth. Our next champion, Cassie (Ch. Daventry Mains'l
Denevillette), also black, was finished in 9 shows by Mark Shanoff. Our fourth Standard champion is Michaela (Ch. Daventry's Medicine Woman) [black]. She is a puppy out of our own breeding of Eric to Cassie. She was shown and finished by Laura Thistle. Michaela is retired and rules the roost.
We then acquired Angie, Benet Greyt Lady of Daventry [silver] She came from a blue/silver line out of Janice Bennett's Benet Kennel. Angie was bred to Ch. Benet Grey Man of Pawleys [blue] and they produced Jordyn [blue bitch]. Jordyn is responsible for changing our focus to poodles as hunting/sporting dogs.
We are proud to announce that, Dickens, Tudorose A Dickens! Daventry (blue) who came to us from Jac Harbour's Tudorose Kennel, earned his WC at the PCA WC/WCX on June 10, 2000, and his JH in September 2002 with Jac as his handler. Dickens earned his CD in June 2003, and his TDI Certificate in July 2003. Dickens and I currently visit 5 - 6 nursing homes every month.
At this time we no longer have any breeding females. We are considering obtaining a female puppy in 2004, so watch for further information and for pictures. In the meantime, we would be happy to answer any questions you may have about poodles and how to locate a puppy that might meet your needs. Please feel free to e-mail us with your questions.
