My Diary - Book 3: Year 2 Part 1
(January 6th - May 9th)

Last Entry = May 5th

This is my third diary book. My life is so exciting I fill my diaries up very quickly. This one tells about my second year of life.

Thursday, January 7, (1 year, two days): Daddy came home late and kissed me after I had gone to bed.

Saturday, January 9th, (1 year, four days): I went to my first birthday party today. It was at Gymboree for my friend Tucker. I was not feeling very well -- otherwise, it would have been a lot of fun. Crazy Uncle Gery and his friend Stephanie came to visit also. He still makes me laugh.

Sunday, January 10th, (1 year, five days): I went to my second cousin Matthew Cunningham's Christening today. It was at the same place that they dumped water over me and the same guy did it! This time, I wore a nice purple dress and did not get wet. Afterwards, we went with the Cunninghams to a nice restaurant for dinner.

Friday, January 15th, (1 year, 1 week, three days): I have pretty much conquered this walking thing finally. Having been sick so much in December, I thought I would never get my balance past the point of doing a "three step stumble", but now I can go all the way across a room without stopping or falling.

Saturday, January 16th (1 year, 1 week, 4 days): Today, I went to another birthday party! It was for my friend Max, who is turning three. I was the youngest kid there, but I still sat at the table with the big kids. I also ate as much as they did, a whole slice of pizza.

Sunday, January 17th (1 year, 1 week, 5 days): Wow, when I woke up from my nap today, there were a lot of my friends at our house! Finally, it was a birthday party for me!! It was so much fun. There were lots of people: my Nanna and Grampa from Vermont, my Uncle Josh, some of my neighbors and some of my present and former classmates, even my teacher Miss Lynda. There must have been thousands and they were all there for me! I got to eat some of my birthday cake and opened lots of presents. Among the presents I got were a big ball pit from Mommy and Daddy (all the older kids loved playing in it), a radio which I can use to play music, some fun bath toys, lots of new building blocks, and some other toys which Mommy and Daddy have put away for later. I think I should have birthdays more often since they are so much fun.

Monday, January 18th (1 year, 1 week, 6 days): Everyone says I talk a lot now. I know lots of words. I can point to my ears, nose, mouth, eyes, toes, fingers, and tongue (my favorite). I yell at Jee (my classmate James) all the time and also at LaLa (another classmate named Lauren). I say "please" a LOT since that seems to get me food more quickly and I can also sign "more", another favorite of mine during dinner. I can say "Mama" but prefer to yell "Daa-EE" most of the time. He is always messing things up so I keep trying to straighten him out.

Saturday, January 23rd (1 year, 2 weeks, 4 days): We went to visit my Godparents and cousin Matthew. He is getting much bigger but still doesn't crawl or talk. I got to play with the dogs again and to eat lots of good Chinese food. I kept running after the dogs and saying "bow wow wow" to them, but they wouldn't talk back. I know that doggies say "bow wow wow" so I couldn't understand why those dogs wouldn't talk to me! I was communicating in their language, after all. I also know that sheep say "baa", cows say "moo", and ducks say "quack quack". I sure know a lot of languages.

Saturday, January 30th (1 year, 3 weeks, 4 days): Hey, I woke up in Maine again today. We were visiting Mommy and Daddy's friends again but this time things were pretty different. Everything was very white for one thing and there was a very, very little baby. Her name was Tess and she was only four weeks old. I helped with her -- everytime she would cry, I would tell everyone "baby" so they would know it was her! Daddy went skiing. I watched him out the window.

Sunday, January 31rd (1 year, 3 weeks, 5 days): Mommy, Daddy and I went sledding today. It is a neat concept. Mommy and Daddy pull me around on my sled and sometimes I get to go really fast. If only it were not so cold, I would like it more.

Monday, February 1st (1 year, 3 weeks, 6 days): Hey, I won the January Board's photo contest! Mommy was very excited because I frequently "almost won". Besides being very adorable, I have also been showing Mommy and Daddy how smart I am. I know lots of words now. Besides the critical ones such as Please, Thank You, Daddy, Momma, Mickey, and of course EAT, I have tackled such words as ball, good-bye, clock, up, cow, and various sounds (moo, baa, la-la-la, bow-wow, tick-tock, etc.). I cannot say crayon yet, but figured out if I brought a puzzle piece to Daddy and Mommy with the crayon on it, even they could figure out what I wanted!

Tuesday, February 9th (1 year, 5 weeks): My friend James fooled me today. We were taking our nap at school and when I woke up, I stood up and started whispering "Jeee" to him. Well, he did not wake up so I had to yell louder and louder. My trick of waking him and Lauren up was consequently blown as Miss Lisa came in to get me. And wouldn't you know it -- when I went into the playroom, James was already there! He had bundled up a blanket to make it look like he was still sleeping. He is so sneaky.

Wednesday, February 10th (1 year, 5 weeks, 1 day): Daddy picked me up early from school today and when we came home my Nanna was here. I had lots of fun with Nanna. She made me laugh very much.

Thursday, February 11th (1 year, 5 weeks, 2 days): Nanna was still here this morning which meant more fun. She left while I was at school though so I was stuck with boring Dad again.

Saturday, February 13 (1 year, 5 weeks, 4 days): Great Aunt Jeannie came and took care of me this evening. We played and played. Mommy and Daddy went to Rhode Island where Mommy judged something called Junior Miss. I fell asleep in Jeannie's arms, I was so tired from playing.

Sunday, February 14th (1 year, 5 weeks, 5 days): Happy Valentine's Day! I got Mom and Dad cards and received cards from my teachers at school, my friends James, Brandon and Carrie, and my grandparents. Great-Aunt Jeannie spent most of the day with us. She even stayed to feed me while Mommy and Daddy went out.

Monday, February 15th (1 year, 5 weeks, 6 days): Today I noticed that Mommy had a watch next to the bed. She told me it was like a clock that you wear on your arm. So, I picked it up and said "cuckoo" like I know clocks do. She thought that was very funny. I never did hear it go cuckoo though so it may be broken.

Wednesday, February 17th (1 year, 6 weeks, 1 day): I have taught everyone a new way to stop doing things. I shake my head vigorously from right to left and back again and they usually stop doing stuff. It also seems to work well with questions such as "do you want some milk" or "do you want to put on your jacket". It is much easier than taking the time to slowly get on to my back, being careful not to bang my head, and start yelling. Of course, it is not quite as effective as a stress release and it doesn't seem to be able to generate the sympathy that tears bring.

Saturday, February 21st (1 year, 6 weeks, 4 days): Mommy and Daddy went out again but this time Miss Nelia, a woman who works with my Mommy, came to visit me while they were gone. I showed her my entire tupperware collection. She was very nice.

Friday, February 26th (1 year, 7 weeks, 3 days): We took a long ride up to Vermont today after Mommy and Daddy picked me up early from school. We finally stopped at a place called Killington, Vermont where my Nanna was already waiting for me in the Inn.

Saturday, February 27th (1 year, 7 weeks, 4 days): What a day. I had a big breakfast with many of the people from my Mommy's work, including Miss Nelia. Mommy and Daddy then went to go skiing (Mommy was nervous because she had not done it before). I stayed with Nanna. We went sledding with Kate (age 13 months), her brother Nicholas (age 5), their mom Julie who works with my Mommy, and their Dad. After that, I was tired but agreed to go swimming with them in the indoor pool. It was very nice, warm, and relaxing. So relaxing, in fact, that I fell asleep in Nanna's arms right there in the pool! Daddy and Mommy came home in the late afternoon, complaining about being sore from skiing but happy. There was a big dinner where I ate lots of spaghetti and then Nanna and I went to bed.

Sunday, February 28th (1 year, 7 weeks, 5 days): After another huge breakfast, I went swimming again but this time with Mommy and Daddy. My grandpa and his friend Betty came down to join us and Nanna for lunch. Then I said goodbye to everyone and went to sleep in the car. Usually, after I sleep, I end up at home but this time I woke up and we were still driving. It was very snowy and rainy and it took a long time to get home but we finally did. I cannot wait to get back to school to tell all my friends about my latest adventures.

Wednesday, March 3rd (1 year, 8 weeks, 1 day): My parents finally figured out that "uh-oh yo-ee-yo" is just a neat phrase my Nanna taught me. What is a spaghetti-o anyway?

Sunday, March 7th (1 year, 8 weeks, 5 days): We went to see my Godparents today. I like to visit them and play with the dogs. The dogs are a little scary to begin with because they are so big but I get more brave as I am there longer.

Wednesday, March 10th (1 year, 9 weeks, 1 day): What an interesting day. It began with me helping my Daddy open his birthday presents. He is very old. Over 30! I do not know how old that is but Mommy keeps saying it is very old. Then this evening, Mommy and Daddy went out. I was going to stay home with that fun girl Miss Nelia, but she could not make it. So, instead, Mommy and Daddy sent me on a field trip across the street even though I was about to get in my jammies! I fell asleep on our neighbor's floor waiting for my parents to return.

Sunday, March 14th (1 year, 9 weeks, 5 days): What a fun time. We went with Great-Aunt Jeannie (who came to watch me yesterday when Mommy and Daddy went out again!) to a Chinese resteraunt. We met Aunt Sara and Uncle Josh there. The food was great. I ate and ate and ate. Uncle Josh could not believe how much I ate. I further impressed him by using my fork some of the time and by using many of the words I now use. I waved and said goodbye to everyone in the resteraunt on my way out. I am very popular.

Thursday, March 18th (1 year, 10 weeks, 2 days): One of my classmates went home early today with something from a chicken. I think it was called the Chicken's Pox. It is apparently a big deal as lots of the parents are worried now. Mom and Dad told me that I got a shot for it a while ago so they aren't worried.

Friday, March 19th (1 year, 10 weeks, 3 days): Did I tell you that they are thinking of moving me to a different room at school soon? I do not quite understand it but it must not be a good thing. Mommy gets upset just thinking about it, as do my teachers at school. Daddy seems most concerned about who else will go with me and which room we will go in. I am getting bored with the toys in my classroom though so I would like to go someplace else soon.

Saturday, March 20th (1 year, 10 weeks, 4 days): We spent the afternoon at a grown-up party. I wore a pretty new dress and some uncomfortable new shoes. It was for a friend of Daddy's at work. Apparently, he is even older than Dad! I had a lot of fun because there were lots of children under the age of 7. Daddy played with them and me a lot. I also got to eat birthday cake which was very good.

Sunday, March 21st (1 year, 10 weeks, 5 days): Today was a much better party. It was the "1 year plus" gathering of the people from Mommy and Daddy's childbirth class. That meant I got to see five of my "birthing" classmates. They all spent the afternoon at my house. One friend refuses to walk but she can sure scootch around on her behind quickly! Zachary is the only boy in the group. He looked pretty cute in his tie and vest. I seem to talk the most but I think that is because I have the most to say. I cannot wait until we get together again this summer.

Tuesday, March 23rd (1 year, 11 weeks): Mommy was not here this morning. She said goodbye to me early last night and went away for work to a place called New York. That meant I had to babysit Daddy all by myself last night and this morning. I could have used some help this morning but Mom just did not respond no matter how often I called her. She picked me up from school this afternoon however. I was afraid that meant Dad was missing so I kept yelling for him. He came home a little later. It is much more comforting when everyone is here doting on me. Oh yeah, I showed Mommy how I can put my own sock on (at least halfway over my foot)! She was very excited and said I am such a smart, big girl.

Saturday, March 27rd (1 year, 11 weeks, 4 days): Another busy day. We spent the morning driving some new cars. It was very exhausting so I took a nap on the car dealer's floor. It was a good thing I did because in the afternoon we went to a place which had animals. There were lots of people there looking for these colored eggs. It did not make any sense to me either so I did not do it. Anyway, I did get to see and talk to a cow, some chickens, a rooster, some bunnies, a few ducks and a bunch of geese. I had to learn a few new languages, like "doodledoo" to talk to the rooster, and "peep peep" to talk to the chickens.

Wednesday, March 31st (1 year, 12 weeks, 1 day): I surprised Mommy tonight by pointing out the letter O and the letter A in my book. I also started emphasizing my head-shaking by saying "no no". Mom seems to get it but Dad is a little slow on the uptake!

Friday, April 2nd (1 year, 12 weeks, 3 days): After school, Mommy and Daddy put me in my pajamas and then put me in the car. When I woke up, we were at Nanna's house and I got to see the dog. I did not want to go back to sleep but Mommy and Daddy insisted.

Saturday, April 3nd (1 year, 12 weeks, 4 days): Blech! My nose and eyes were all funny today. Mommy and Daddy said it had something to do with allergies and the dog. I went for a walk with Grandpa, Aunt Sara, and Dad this morning to the bakery and later went with Mommy and Daddy on a walk and played on some slides. We slept at another house tonight where there are no dogs.

Easter Sunday, April 4th (1 year, 12 weeks, 5 days): My nose and eyes were a little better today. That was fortunate since I needed my eyes to find the colored eggs which somebody left on the lawn! I also got some other gifts in a nice basket and wore my very nice pretty dress. Unfortunately, I bumped my head when I had my new dress on and was quite unhappy about it (see picture). I'm quite sure it had something to do with the hat, so I refused to wear the hat after that. On the way home, we stopped at a place called ChuckE Cheese. There were lots of lights and children and some rides to go on. I had a good time there.

Thursday, April 8th (1 year, 13 weeks, 2 days): Daddy and I went to watch Aunt Sara coach her soccer team. Her team has a bunch of girls including my neighbor Jill. Nanna was there with the dog so I had a good time.

Sunday, April 11th (1 year, 13 weeks, 5 days): I went to a very fun birthday party today. It was at my friends Brandon and Carrie's house and had several other children who were about two. Even though everyone was older than me, I had a good time. We had cake and they had lots of toys to play with. Plus they had two dogs!

Monday, April 12th (1 year, 13 weeks, 6 days): School was weird today. I did not go to my usual "Lovebugs" classroom but instead went to "Pooh's Corner". Last week, James, Kirstin, Lauren and I visited the Toddlers area a lot, even taking naps there, but this was the first time I spent almost the whole day there. And I did it by myself since my classmates were all no-shows! I had a good day and went back to the infants section only at the very end so I could say hello to my old classmates.

Tuesday, April 13th (1 year, 14 weeks): My classmates did not show up again, but I continued to be the big girl and stay in the toddler section. I like my new teacher, Miss Kirsten, but am not sure which room is mine. Since it is only me, we spend a lot of time in the other Toddler rooms. I get to meet lots of new people this way and see what the bigger kids do, but it would be more fun if James were here so I could tell him what to do! I guess we are what Daddy calls nomads.

Wednesday, April 14th (1 year, 14 weeks, 1 day): Still flying solo here. I wish my classmates would come back. These new classrooms and better playground are great fun. I really want to show them all this fun stuff.

Friday, April 16th (1 year, 14 weeks, 3 days): Yay! James finally came back. I got to show him around the new digs. It is much more fun when some of my old classmates are with me.

Sunday, April 18th (1 year, 14 weeks, 5 days): We had a big graduation party for me, James, Lauren, and Kirstin. Unfortunately, Kirstin could not come because she was sick. James and Lauren came to my house, along with my teachers Miss Lynda and Miss Lisa. Also, Miss Becky and Miss Megan, Kirstin's teachers from the classroom next door, also came. It was fun. James and I ate lots of cake and ice cream. Ice cream is very good, but it starts to hurt your hands if you hold it too long. I find eating it fast works best.

Thursday, April 29th (1 year, 16 weeks, 2 days): Wow, what a fun day! We started it by going to the airport. I watched planes fly and little choo-choo trains deliver lots of bags to the planes on the ground. Then I went on a plane. Mommy and Daddy say I have been on a plane before but I do not remember it very well. We flew to a place called Memphis where I watched more planes and little choo-choos and where we had lunch. Then we got on another plane and went to a place called Austin Texas. I slept a little on the planes because it was all so exciting and tiring. Austin is hot. I met Mommy and Daddy's friends Lori and Phil and their two children Carolyn (she is 7) and Michelle (she is 5). They have all sorts of toys. In the evening we went to a little fair at Michelle's school. There were slides and animals and all sorts of fun things to do, including eating which is what I like to do best!

Friday, April 30th (1 year, 16 weeks, 3 days): When I woke up we were still in Texas. I spent most of the day playing. Lori and Phil live near an airport so I saw lots of planes go by and I pointed them out to Mom and Dad. I also played with a lot of bubbles as it was warm out. Lori and Phil were surprised when I ate two hot dogs and half a hamburger for dinner even though Mom had told them I like to eat.

Friday, May 1st (1 year, 16 weeks, 4 days): Mommy and Phil played the piano today while Michelle, Carolyn and I danced. Michelle also taught me a very fun game called "follow the leader". Whatever I did, she did also. It was very very funny!

Sunday, May 2nd (1 year, 16 weeks, 5 days): Wow. I saw whales and dolphins and sea lions and a giant sand box and lots of other things at a place called Sea World. I loved all the activity and shows. They even had men jumping out of the water like the whales! Mommy and Daddy went on a special type of train which went very fast and up and down called a roller-coaster.

Monday, May 3rd (1 year, 16 weeks, 6 days): Carolyn went to school this morning and Phil went to get on an airplane. The rest of us went to a small park where I got to see some animals. Mommy, Daddy and I went to meet some other friends named Amy and Rich. We ate near a lake which was fun. I watched the ducks while Mommy finished eating. Then we went and had ice cream which is one of my favorites. There were a lot of people walking around since it was such a nice evening so I waved and said hello and good-bye to many of them. They all thought I was very cute.

Tuesday, May 4th (1 year, 17 weeks): I got to fly home today with Mommy and Daddy. For some reason they would not let my car seat go with me so I sat in a big persons seat for half the trip and on Mommy and Daddy's lap for the other part. Fortunately, my seat was waiting for me when we got to Boston. Flying sure is a lot of fun.

Sunday, May 9th (1 year, 17 weeks, 5 days): Finally, the weather is nice enough for me to wear some of my Texas clothes (those clothes which I had never seen before Mommy and Daddy brought me to Texas). I do not like this stuff my parents keep putting all over me but they say it will stop the sun from hurting my skin. Apparently, Daddy's genes are the root of this problem somehow!
