This is my fourth diary book. I am learning and experiencing so much so quickly, Daddy hardly has time to write it all down.
Monday, May 10th (1 year, 17 weeks, 6 days): Mommy was dressed up for a new job today. At least that what Mommy and Daddy talked about a lot today. It all seems pretty much the same to me. She leaves in the morning and comes home in the evening just like me. I wonder why they call mine "school" and hers and daddy's "work"?
Saturday, May 15th (1 year, 18 weeks, 4 days): I got to see Miss Nelia again today. She came over this evening just as I was finishing dinner and spent the whole evening with me. Daddy and Mommy went out to dinner and then went to something called a ballet named Dracula. I like when Miss Nelia comes to visit.
Sunday, May 16th, (1 year, 18 weeks, 5 days): I saw Trent today. He is that boy who lives a long way away and has all those brothers. He was alone with his mom and dad this time. Mommy and I met them for breakfast while Daddy played soccer. He is sort of cute but I made pretend that I did not notice. Mommy left in the afternoon to go on an airplane. I think I saw her fly over. Daddy said that she would be back soon.
Monday, May 17th, (1 year, 18 weeks, 6 days): Mommy is not home yet. She is still in the phone in a place called Seattle. Miss Tracy came over today and ate dinner with Daddy and me.
Wednesday, May 19th, (1 year, 19 weeks, 1 day): Mommy still is not home. I miss her. Dad is pretty boring. Daddy said when I woke up Mommy would be home.
Thursday, May 20th, (1 year, 19 weeks, 2 days): Yeah, Mommy is home! Daddy was right -- when I woke up, she was here. In the evening, we all went out to a restaurant in the city where Mommy and Daddy met an old friend.
Saturday, May 22nd, (1 year, 19 weeks, 4 days): I went to Gymboree and saw my friend Gymbo with Mommy today. Usually, Daddy goes also but he had to coach all those boys for soccer. I frequently help him practice on Friday nights but would much rather play with my friends at Gymbo on Saturday mornings.
Friday, May 28th, (1 year, 20 weeks, 3 days): I got my own picnic table today. I think it is great.
Sunday, May 30th, (1 year, 20 weeks, 5 days): What a party! Lots of the neighbors came over today for a big Memorial day cookout. There were lots of children. I even shared my picnic table and toys with some of them.
Tuesday, June 1st, (1 year, 21 weeks): Happy Birthday, Mommy! We went to a nice restaurant to celebrate Mommy's birthday. She is much older than me but not as old as Daddy.
Wednesday, June 2nd (1 year, 21 weeks, 1 day): I went to the doctor's office today because I keep coughing a lot. Apparently, I have lots of allergies still. He gave me some medicine which seems to help. I like to take my yum-yum allergy medicine.
Saturday, June 5th, (1 year, 21 weeks, 4 days): Another busy day. Great-Aunt Jeannie had come last night to play with me while Mommy and Daddy went out, and she was still here this morning. So were some of Mommy's relatives. Jeannie went with me to see Gymbo. I played with her a lot today since Daddy and Mommy were busy. In the evening, lots of Mommy's relatives came to eat at our house so I got to see my second cousin Matthew and relatives from Hong Kong and New Jersey!
Saturday, June 12th, (1 year, 22 weeks, 4 days): I went to my friend Christina's birthday party today. It was lots of fun. I played with bubbles and ate ice cream and cake. I like eating ice cream. It is almost as yummy as pudding.
Sunday, June 13th, (1 year, 22 weeks, 5 days): Whew! So much fun! There was a huge neighborhood "block" party today with a hundred people. The best part was that I got to watch the big kids jump around in a moonwalk. Then, Lindsey (from next door) and I got to go in by ourselves. It was so much fun, being just like the big kids. Jump jump! Jump jump!
Friday, June 18th, (1 year, 23 weeks, 3 days): I got to use my new table today. It has two chairs and is in the kitchen. I cannot wait to have some friends over to have "tea" like I did with Michelle and Carolyn in Texas.
Saturday, June 19th, (1 year, 23 weeks, 4 days): I got to use my new sandbox today. It is shaped like a turtle and is out on the deck. I LOVE sandboxes. Every day, when I come home from school, I fill up my shoes and pockets with sand to give my parents the hint. It's about time they finally got me one! I also got to see Aunt Sara today. She went with us to a shopping place where Mommy and Daddy got surprisingly little for me!
Wednesday, June 23rd, (1 year, 24 weeks, 1 day): I wore my new soccer shoes today and played soccer with the neighbors. I played for about 20 minutes and even touched the ball twice (when Daddy passed it to me). It was so much fun playing with the big kids. I was so happy that every time Mommy asked if I were ready to go home, I would say, "no, play soccer" and run back onto the lawn.
Friday, June 25th, (1 year, 24 weeks, 3 days): After we went out to eat, we stopped at a little fair. Mommy took me on a choo-choo train which went around in circles, and Daddy took me on a really really big slide. I do not think I liked the slide very much. When they asked if I wanted to go again, I quickly said "no no".
Saturday, June 26th (1 year, 24 weeks, 4 days): We went to a special farm today called Davis Farm. It had lots of barnyard animals which I got to play with. I saw sheep, chickens, cows, roosters, rabbits, goats, pigs, horses, llama, deer, ducks, geese, peacocks, and donkeys. At least, that's all the animals I know. I was such a big girl that I even helped feed the animals. I watched them feed a big big bottle of milk to a calf. Then, I actually helped hold the bottle for a baby goat! I was so proud that I could do it like the grown-ups! I've been going around telling everyone "Alex help baby goat bottle".
Sunday, June 27th (1 year, 24 weeks, 5 days): I used my new pool today. It has been outside for a while but the weather hasn't been very good. Today was hot, so I got in my swimsuit and went in it. It even has a slide and everything. My neighbor Jennifer came over and played with me in it. We also played with bubbles, which is one of my favorite things to do.
Monday, June 28th (1 year, 24 weeks, 6 days): I discovered that I can climb out of my crib. I was not ready to go to bed so, while Mommy was standing there, I managed to get one leg up and over and was on my way to my escape when Mommy caught me (literally, I was starting to fall on the other side). (I do not like the crib because cribs are for babies and I am not a baby!) Daddy was out getting something called a child safety gate when I fell asleep a little later.
Wednesday, June 30th (1 year, 25 weeks, 1 day): I got a big girl bed today. It is beautiful! I even helped Daddy set it up in the evening. I went to sleep on it tonight.
Thursday, July 1st (1 year, 25 weeks, 2 days): I woke up on the floor. I do not remember how I got there. I figured out how to climb over that safety gate object, which apparently made Mommy and Daddy very nervous. I had my first corn-on-the-cob tonight and got almost all the corn off by myself!
Friday, July 2nd(1 year, 25 weeks, 3 days): "Uncle" Hib was here when I woke up. I went to school in the morning, but right after my afternoon nap, Daddy and Uncle Hib picked me up and we went to a zoo. We walked around for a while and then Mommy came and walked with us. I saw monkeys, kangaroos, tigers, deer, elephants, giraffes, lions, goats, rhinosauri and lots of other animals. I even fed some deer by myself. They eat corn, which I can understand because I think it is good.
Saturday, July 3rd (1 year, 25 weeks, 4 days): What a fun day. I got to see lots of people who all thought I was wonderful. We were at Nanna and Grampa's camp on Lake Champlain. My favorite buddy Uncle Josh was there. So were Aunt Sara, Great-Aunt Jeannie, Sabie the dog, and a bunch of other people. I got to play in a little swimming pool that Nanna got just for me. Aunt Sara, Daddy, Mommy, and Nanna all joined me at various times. I walked in the lake also.
Sunday, July 4th (1 year, 25 weeks, 5 days): Another fun day. I played in the lake a lot today. I even went out on a float with Mommy and Daddy. I watched Daddy go "tubing" in the afternoon. I kept telling Mommy I wanted to go too ("Alex tubing") but she made me take a nap instead. Mom and Dad got me in my PJs and put me in the car in the evening for the ride home.
Monday, July 5th, (1 year, 25 weeks, 6 days): Mom and Dad said I was 18 months old today. Uncle Hib had gone home by the time I woke up this morning. He rode on an airplane. I got to see Baby Tess for the first time since we met at her parent's place in Maine. She has grown a lot and is now six months old. I was a little concerned that she would take some of my toys but she did not. I shared some of my baby toys but I did not want to share some of my big girl toys.
Wednesday, July 7th, (1 year, 26 weeks, 1 day): Mommy and Daddy went out tonight so I stayed with Miss Tracy. I tried to make Mommy and Daddy feel important by yelling and screaming alot before they left, but then Mommy said that Miss Tracy was going to give me pudding. I immediately stopped crying and said "Pudding? Bye bye!"
Sunday, July 10th, (1 year, 26 weeks, 5 days): Nanna came to visit. She did not bring her dog, Sabie, though, which is too bad.
Monday, July 11th, (1 year, 26 weeks, 6 days): Daddy had gone on an airplane when I got up this morning. He went to Houston so I did not get to see him at all. Nanna brought me to school and picked me up. She missed the school on the way which I thought was pretty strange.
Wednesday, July 13th, (1 year, 27 weeks, 1 day): Daddy came back home when I was sleeping last night. I told him he was supposed to be on an airplane when I saw him this morning. Nanna went back home to see Sabie.
Saturday, July 17th, (1 year, 27 weeks, 4 days): We met Christina and her parents at a fun play house today. For over two hours, we played with stuffed animals and trains and puppets and a toy house and kitchen and grocery shop and lots of musical instruments and much more. We then went out to lunch with them. It was great fun.
Sunday, July 18th, (1 year, 27 weeks, 5 days): It was hot again today. It has been very hot for a long time. My neighbor Lindsey came over and played with me in the pool and we blew bubbles together.
Wednesday, July 21st (1 year, 28 weeks, 1 day): Mommy dropped me off AND pickd me up at school today. When she picked me up, I asked "Daddy airplane?" But, it turns out that he was just at home and sloughing off his duties! I was mad at him when I got home and found out he wasn't on an airplane.
Saturday, July 24th, (1 year, 28 weeks, 4 days): We all went into Boston today. I really liked it! As soon as we got into the city, I looked out the car window and starting saying, "People! People!" I've never seen so many people walking around! I saw several doggies, and we ate lunch at a restaurant. Afterwards, we stopped at Uncle Josh and Aunt Sara's house. I was so tired from walking around the city that I slept through most of the visit. But, it was VERY HOT at their house, so I woke up. Later in the day, we went to a party at a neighbor's house. Daddy and I went swimming. I really like to go in the water -- as long as I do not get my face wet!
Sunday, July 25th, (1 year, 28 weeks, 5 days): We went to another party today. It was for someone that Daddy used to work with. There were lots of girls who were about 10 years old. They ran around and climbed on the swingset. It was fascinating. I watched and watched and watched. Later, I tried to climb on some of the toys also.
Friday, July 30th, (1 year, 29 weeks, 3 days): Wow. I woke up today and my grandma and granddaddy were here to visit. I have not seen them in a long time. In the evening, cousin Matthew came over with Great Uncle James and Great Aunt Lucy. Matthew can crawl pretty well now and liked playing in my ball pit.
Saturday, July 31st, (1 year, 29 weeks, 4 days): We went to a big cookout at Aunt Jennifer and Uncle Kevin's house today. There were lots of people including James, Lucy and Matthew. There was even a big pig that was cooking over a fire. I kept saying "Oink oink" but it did not respond.
Sunday, August 1st, (1 year, 29 weeks, 5 days): What a day. We got in the car just after breakfast and drove towards NY. On the way, we stopped and ate a place which had an elevator which I liked a lot. It was made of glass so I could see lots of people when it went up and down. When we got to New York City, we got on a "big ship" called the Triumph. It had glass elevators in it too! It has swimming pools and lots of places to eat and a slide for me to play on and a water slide for Daddy. Mommy, Daddy and I were in one room (where I have my own little bed) while Grandma and Granddaddy were in the room next to us. We had a drill where we all had to put on funny orange colored clothing and go outside. It was fun for a while but then I did not like the clothing anymore so I yelled a lot (until Mommy and Daddy took it off). The boat left New York about supper time.
Monday, August 2nd, (1 year, 29 weeks, 6 days): We were still on the ship when I woke up. We went to a place with lots of children and toys in the afternoon. It was a little cold to go swimming since we were on the ocean but I had fun walking around and playing most of the day. In the evening, I went to my first "Big Show". There was lots of dancing and singing and a piano and lights and everything. It was very exciting if just a little loud at times. I loved it and told Mommy and Daddy how great it was when we went back to the room (so I did not go to sleep until late).
Tuesday, August 3rd, (1 year, 30 weeks): Today we were in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We walked around the city in the morning, going up a big hill and spending time in a beautiful park. It is great fun having Grandma and Granddaddy around, as I get lots of extra attention. The people at a hotel let me borrow a stroller so I did not have to walk the whole way. It is a good thing, because I was exhausted and fell asleep before we got back to the boat. Daddy, Mommy and I all went swimming in the late afternoon.
Wednesday, August 4th, (1 year, 30 weeks, 1 day): Another day at sea and more time on the slides and playing in the play space. The best part of the day was another "Big Show" with more dancing, singing, and a piano. I could hardly stay awake because it started so late but I was very determined to watch the whole thing and I did.
Thursday, August 5th, (1 year, 30 weeks, 2 days): We were back in the big city today when I woke up. We said good-bye to the boat and drove to see Great Great Uncle Norman and Great Great Aunt Agnes. I took a nap there and then played with Daddy, Mommy, and my grandparents for most of the rest of the day. After we ate dinner with them, we got back in the car and I fell asleep. Sometime later, I remember them putting me back in my own bed at home.
Friday, August 6th, (1 year, 30 weeks, 3 days): Another fun day with Granddaddy, Grandma, Mom and Dad. We went into Boston and walked around the city. We went on some boats which looked liked Swans and later I sat on a statue of a duck. We met with Aunt Ginny for dinner at a place called Grillfish. I was bored because it took so long to get food so Daddy went with me for a walk. We went by a fire station where we looked at the fire trucks. None were going "Hurry, hurry" but a nice man let me sit in one of them!
Saturday, August 7th, (1 year, 30 weeks, 4 days): I finally got to show Grandma what an emu is (which is one of my favorite words so I say it quite frequently). We went to the Southwick Animal Farm where I showed them not only emus but also deer, tigers, goats, lions, monkeys, and other animals. Afterwards, we went to the airport and Grandma and Granddaddy got on an airplane and flew away. I hope they come back soon because I had a lot of fun with them.
Sunday, August 8th, (1 year, 30 weeks, 5 days): It's back to just Mom, Dad and me which is not as much fun. I did, however, get my first "professional" hair cut today. Mommy and Daddy apparently were scared to cut my hair after the last time (when it was a little shorter and more crooked than I would have liked).
Saturday, August 14th, (1 year, 31 weeks, 4 days): Great Aunt Jeannie came over and we went to an amusement park called Whalom Park. We had a picnic there and we rode a little train and a merry-go-round. There were several other rides which some children went on but I didn't really want to go. It was a very fun time walking around and seeing all the rides and people.
Saturday, August 21st, (1 year, 32 weeks, 4 days): We met my friends Brandon and Carrie today at a museum. It was called the Ecotarium and there were lots of things to play with and to see. I liked the animals the best -- bald eagles, polar bears, otters, snakes, and lots of owls. It was fun to be at a museum with my friends.
Sunday, August 22nd, (1 year, 32 weeks, 5 days): I have not been sick for a long time but I do not feel well today. I am very warm and am not very hungry.
Monday, August 23rd, (1 year, 32 weeks, 6 days): No school for me. Staying home with Dad.
Thursday, August 26th, (1 year, 33 weeks, 2 days): Finally I was well enough to go back to school. Dad is very tiring when he stays home with me. Fortunately, my neighbor Alicia came to take care of me for one afternoon. I think I would have gone crazy otherwise. Anyhow, I am glad to be back at school.
Saturday, August 28th, (1 year, 33 weeks, 4 days): We went to an aquarium today. I liked watching the dolphins. There were whales, lion fish, seals, penquins, crabs, lobsters, eels and many other fish to see. Afterwards, we ate at an outdoor restaurant near a bridge. The bridge went up and down when some big boats went by. It was fun to watch.
Wednesday, September 1st, (1 year, 34 weeks, 1 day): Mom and Dad are always talking about the things that I can do now. If you ask me, it is nerve-wracking to hear it again and again. "Alex can count to ten and say most of her ABCs. She sings Baa Baa Black Sheep and has the sheep give one bag of wool to her friend James. She speaks in broken sentences and frequently mimics what anyone says." How many times do I have to hear, "Alex has a great sense of humor, joking that a her pink shoes are blue or making up silly combinations of words and laughing. She speaks some Chinese and can follow directions such as throwing things in the trash."
Friday, September 3rd, (1 year, 34 weeks, 3 days): Both Daddy and Mommy picked me up today in Daddy's new green car. We then went to a fun children's museum. It had several different rooms with lots of animals and toys. There was one of a forest, another of the African Safari, another of a boat, etc. I liked the room with rainbows best. It had a slide, some music, and a big bear to hug!
Sunday, September 12th, (1 year, 35 weeks, 5 days): What a fun day. I went and played at two different playgrounds and then went to a party with some of my friends from school. The party was at Brandon and Carrie's house and there were lots of toys to play with, including a toy kitchen, a swing, and a big playset.
Wednesday, September 15th, (1 year, 36 weeks, 1 day): I shocked my parents today by telling them my career ambitions. My Mom was telling my Dad a story about her friend who is an entrepreneur. Then she asked me if I was going to be an entrepreneur when I grew up, and I said, "No. Astronaut!" When she asked, "Do you know what an astronaut does?", I told her "Fly to the moon!" Mommy was very excited. I think she wants me to fly to the moon soon.
Sunday, September 19th, (1 year, 36 weeks, 5 days): What a fun day. We played in the morning and then in the afternoon went to a party. It was for my Dad's cousin. He got married yesterday and there was a party with lots of people today. I got to see several of my Daddy's relatives whom I do not get to see very often. I also got to dance, play an accordian, and sing in a microphone. I charmed a little boy into giving me some of his cookie and also to dance!
Saturday, September 25th, (1 year, 37 weeks, 4 days): We went to Gymboree today. I am one of the older kids in my class this time. I like to climb and slide and, of course, to get stamps on my hands at the end of class.
