When I decided to make this page,I didn't
anticipate that it would set me raving about BIT-honestly, it does take
a lot of effort to get me move a finger in any kind of work, let alone
activate my often-dormant mental prowess-but the word "BIT GIRLS HOSTEL" is truly
magical! It set my mind off on a voyage of nostalgia! And (to your misfortune)
here I am typing the ramblings of my mind!
My mind is one big jumble, thinking of so many things at the same time!-
the mess, the bathroom songs, sleepy girls-with
-toothbrushes-stuck-in-their-mouth ,the throwball or was it Volley Ball game in the
"Court", the poor telephone system that never even got a minute's
rest ( I think telephone is the most used instrument in the whole wide
world!), the Monday morning blues, girls walking towards TAI'S LAIR(our MESSY MESS) , sitting and waiting for Tai's garam garam roti for which we had to line up and wait for hours!),
the log book in the guard's room in which we had to sign if we stepped out of the hostel even for five minutes. Also we had to face our dear warden with a good excuse if we stepped IN after 7:00 PM, donn raise ur eyebrows, it was 6:30 PM in winters.I was terrified by that book- it was as though we are committing a grave crime
or something like that! The first time I had to face my warden for coming late
(I was 4 minutes late),I feared I was
going to be chucked out of "heaven". But of course, nature has its own
ways. I gradually grew to be wiser, and managed to come out with highly
imaginative replies like "I was in my lab, working!, or had to make an urgent call:-)"
We had other strange rules too. your status as a hostellite is
too vulnerable to attack! Our hostel cudn't be visited by our batchmates We had hard time convincing our warden that they hardly have any romantic intentions at all! :)
Anyway, coming back to food, how can i forget the "aloo ke parathe" and "Pohaa"? Do you BIT girls hostellites remember the aloo ke parathe that was made every Friday? And gals do u remember pooha tai wud make and we wud go complaining that it smells of some oil.Remember those clatter of plates in the mess. Boy!I can't believe we survived aapa's and Tai's food for four years.
BIT - how I miss BIT! Can never have enough of the fun I had
during my four year stay there and can never put down all of it in words
(especially when you have to keep the reader in mind)...I miss the night
our sessions after the exams, the group studies during the exams (translation:chat
sessions), intimidated girls staring into their note books at the mess
table.
Oh boy! how can i forget those days, the frequent dance practices for various
hostel nights..Ah, talking
of hostel nights,...oh no, i think this will suffice for now..LG, go home,
cuddle up in your bed and continue cherishing your hostel life. The poor
reader can't take any more torture..:)
