RUN DOWN BY TRAIN AS HE WALKS ALONG TRACKS
Jacob Gabbard Comes To A Sudden End
Picked Up By Train's Crew and Brought To This City
Death was almost instantaneous this morning to Jacob Gabbard, aged 60, of 1125 South Garfield Avenue, this city, when a fast passenger train on the Big Four rail road struck him near Henderson's woods, two and one-half miles south of Middletown.
The unfortunate man had been husking corn in that vicinity. He is said to have been walking along the track when the fast train approached. The train was No. 16, northbound flyer, due in this city as 11:45 o'clock, a new train that has only been in service on the Big Four since last month.
The train's victim was hurled some distance to the side of the track. He was picked up by the train's crew and rushed to this city. It is said he lived only a few minutes following the accident. The body was taken in charge by A.T. Wilson & Son. The body was not mangled, but fatal internal injuries were inflicted.
Mr. Gabbard is survived by the widow and ten children, four of whom are residents of this city. They have the utmost sympathy of hosts of friends in the sorrow.
