A
babyboomer, a flower child of the '60s and '70s, a rebel in my own
youth, born to be wild...
I resolved
early to offer a life of choices for my children. I thought that it
would be so easy. As hard as it appears to have been at times, the
rewards have far outweighed any perceived negative
connotations.
We have grown together and
learned from each other. I am grateful for their support and love in
the pursuit of my dreams. I only hope that I have reciprocated to
them in more than equal measures.
Both of my sons were born in
Tucson, Arizona.
- I was
barely nineteen-years old when Sean was born.
- I was just
tweny-seven years old when Richard was born.
- Both have
different fathers...both share the same mother.
- Both, for
different reasons, have struggled with life.
I labored for seven hours for
Sean's arrival, demanding drugs immediately to ease the 'pain'. I
barely made it to the hospital for Richard's birth, never getting an
opportunity for any drugs.
Two male offspring, as different
as night and day.
- One's room
looks as if a hurricane hit it...the other's room is immaculate.
- One
boy-child loves rock music...the other jives to rap.
- One is
interested in psyhcology...the other is fascinated with
statistics.
- One has surpassed me on the computer...the other is majoring in communication arts and Spanish.
Sean is my firstborn and the mirror
of my heart. I made many mistakes with him.
Richard is my last born and the mirror of my soul. I made
more mistakes with him.
I love each
man-child more than the other.
