Cherry
Hill Chinese Shar-Pei was started with the acquisition of Pinefield Polly Flinders from
Pat Lampinen of Pinefield Kennels. We received Polly from Pat in August of 1993
after loosing our 18 month old black bitch, Chequamegons Black Thunder, to a random act of
poisoning. Kwong, as she was called, was sired by a Pinefield dog and we had talked
to Pat after loosing her. Through her generosity she gave us Polly who was four at the
time.
Lois began showing her
shortly after we received her and we continued to do so through 1994. In June of
1994 we were sent a male to show in the U.S. This dog, Can Ch Shii Tzao Chili Con
Carnito seemed to be a perfect match for Polly. He was an immediate success in the ring
racking up his points towards his AKC championship.
In 1995, we purchased a
home with ten acres in Bayfield County. Both Polly and Carnito had been OFA'd and found to
be Excellent and Good respectively. Their first breeding produced four pups, two of
which we kept, one was sent to a companion home and one died at three months from a heart
defect.
The two pups were
brought out at 6 months of age and both proved to be winners. Ace, the male took a BOW at
his first show and the female, Joker took WB. Ace was shown on a limited basis in
Canada and finished his Championship in early 1997. Joker was eventually placed in a
loving home and now enjoys being spoiled and made over.
While Ace went through
his teen age ugliness his dad Carnito finished his AKC championship in May 1997 with a
four point major.
In September of 1996,
we purchased a male pup out of Ch KozyHills Show Me Off X Ch KozyHills What a Hand
Full. Named KozyHills Keep Um' Coming (Kermit), he was also a success in his
first outing in 1997 taking BOW. After taking 10 points towards his AKC Championship
and 5 towards his Canadian he was found to have entropian in his left eye. He was
subsequently retired from the show ring, his eyes surgically corrected and at the same
time neutered. He was placed in a loving companion home and also
enjoys being a spoiled child with his girl friend and buddy C.C.
In November 1996 Polly
produced her final litter consisting of 5 pups. Three survived and one beautiful
fawn went to Pat Lampinen's sister in California. A big male bear coat went to a
loving home in our area. The third a black brush coat was kept to see how she
developed. After 6 months we realized her bite would never come back.
In February
1997 Polly was retired and in June 1997 Carnito was as well. Both have been
altered and now are shown on a limited basis in veterans.
In February 1997 we
were given the opportunity to acquire a pup out of CH Elites Cadilliac Style X CH
KozyHills I'm No Bimbo. Needing a female to continue our breeding program we chose a
sweet little girl from the litter. Named KozyHills Caddy's Lil' Deville (Janie) she
was an immediate charmer. After putting 5 points on her we sent her to Clint
Livingston to show in October of 1997. She finished her championship in November of
1997 taking the Southern Circuit by storm. She is now home for a well needed
vacation.
In August 1997 we were
honored to receive Timby's Veni Vidi Vici (Caesar) from Bryan Timby. We picked up
this little man at Nationals and he has been a joy since he came into our lives.
He is currently being shown towards his Championship. A breeding with Janie
is scheduled for 2001.
Since we have decided
to do limited breeding we have committed ourselves to producing the best offspring
possible. Following Pat Lampinen's lead we are committed first and foremost to health,
temperament and longevity. Of equal importance is the homes our pups go to.
Each person or family is asked to fill out a questionnaire and
references are checked. We believe that these dogs will always be attached to us and
it is our intention to find them loving, permanent homes.
Lois has been part of
the pet community for over 10 years. She has owned a grooming business and is a
Nationally Certified Master Groomer. She has also taught obedience for ten years and
is a member of The National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI).
Starting out with Shetland Sheepdogs she has competed in the obedience ring for many
years. She has placed many titles on her dogs including her nine year old Sheltie
Amos (Am/Can CDX). She has been involved in Sheltie rescue and has placed a CD
on one of her rescues at age 9. Rue nearly completed the requirements for her CDX
when she was discovered to have bone cancer. We said goodbye to Rue in December of
1992.
Beginning with Polly
our first show Shar-Pei she has taken a group two in veterans sweeps in Canada, a third
place at the 1997 CSPCA Nationals and a 4th place in Veteran Bitches in the
1999 National Specialty against stiff competition.
In April
1999, we relocated to Ohio to be closer to Lois' parents and help them
in their senior years with the farm.
We sincerely hope that
you will take the time to visit our site and learn more about this wonderful breed. It is
our desire to educate as many people as possible and are more than willing to answer any
questions you may have.
Enjoy!
Jim and Lois Carter
