"Do Not Take God's Glory"
"And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat
upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the
people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not
of a man. And immediately THE ANGEL OF THE LORD SMOTE
HIM, BECAUSE HE GAVE NOT GOD THE GLORY: and he was
eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost." - Acts 12:21-23
Herod took the glory that belonged to God and allowed the people to say that Herod was a god. This was a terrible thing! JUDGMENT came on Herod and he was eaten with worms (maggots) and died! Likely, we all would say, "I would never take God's glory." But I am concerned that sometimes we do take the glory that belongs to God. I have to ALWAYS remember that for any success and blessings that BibleFood experiences - GOD must get ALL the GLORY!
To add more seriousness to this matter, remember in I Peter 4:17 it says "… judgment must begin at the house of God…" (That's us - the Christians).
I have seen some "mighty" ministries fall and come to naught "eaten with worms" and die. Why? Because they got puffed up in pride and thought it was THEIR ministry, when in truth it should have been God's ministry and God should have received ALL the glory for it.
It seems to me that PRIDE and taking God's glory go hand-in-hand.
Pride is, in my opinion, one of the most dangerous things we can get into ESPECIALLY when it comes to spiritual things. When we start thinking, "Oh, look at what a great church I have built", or "Look at my great bus ministry", or "I have the largest Sunday school class in the church", or "I have a great Internet devotional", etc., pride enters in.
Let me warn you - don't brag on your great spiritual "accomplishments" and fall into pride. How many Christians and ministers have said that they would never get into adultery (for example). And then, sure enough, pride enters (which is sin) and they leave the door open by that pride, and temptation comes in when their guard is down and the end result is we have another "affair" on our hands.
The Bible says, "Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." - II Corinthians 10:12
In closing, I would like to say that God will not allow us to steal His glory, and pride is the enemy of our soul that would even make us think of doing such a thing. Walk humbly before God and man and give God all the glory and your life will be blessed by the LORD.
