“Forgetting those things in your past” - Phil. 3:13,14
The Apostle Paul was wise enough to know he had not “arrived” in his Christian life (see v.10-12), but what was he doing “....this one thing I do” and here it is that phrase that is the subject for today “forgetting those things which are behind.....”Paul was exhorting the Christians to not live in their past. 1. Don’t live in your past failures (Paul persecuted and likely responsible for many Christian deaths - Acts 8:1-3). 2. Don’t live in your past successes (If anyone could try to boast on his credentials it was Paul! - See verse 4-7). If any one could fit into these two categories it was Paul. And what does Paul say to do with your PAST, forget it!Yesterdays sins and failures are not to hold us back from what God has for us TODAY! Yesterdays successes and blessings will not carry you TODAY! Today is a new day with new challenges in our walk with Jesus. I am not saying to never remember the past at all, as we are told to do so in the Bible (to remember where we came from and God’s hand throughout various things in our life), but the “remember” which is mentioned here I believe means don’t live in your YESTERDAYS, you need fresh manna from heaven (Biblefood) DAILY. Then were told what we are to do, “reaching forth unto those things which are before, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” In closing today, I would like to look at the words “reaching forth” - in my research that means, Stretching forward or to strain every nerve to reach. We need to reach for that which before, which is the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Fellow Christian put your energy (with every fiber of your being) into what God has for you TODAY, and you will see why this passage was anointed of the Holy Spirit to be part of the Holy Scriptures!
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. Phil. 3:13,14
