Todays devotion will be short and to the point, though we will only look briefly at this passage, let me say it is a POWERFUL passage (we may dig in deeper into this passage in the future). But for today lets just hit on one thought on this passage, and let it set you free!

Jesus had just shared on being the Bread of Life, and that He was sent from heaven, and we must make Him our life. Well that’s all some of His “disciples” could take, they left (not the 12 disciples). So Jesus asked the twelve
“Will you also go away?” and I just love Peters answer, his words have been brought to my mind many, many times over the years. He says, “to whom shall we go?” Or in anotherwords, “who else is there to go to we got YOU”. That is the answer we need to give when Jesus hits us with a heavy Word. Also when we are down, discouraged and maybe even tempted to run from the Lord. We should see there is No where (no ONE) to go to, you have Jesus! Through my 23 years as a Christian I have had many highs and lows, and at times I have run from Him in different ways, but always in my heart I knew there is no where and no one to go to for I HAVE JESUS! We need to wake up to that wonderful fact that WE HAVE JESUS! There is NO OTHER WAY. Just thank God you have JESUS no matter what comes your way. No sense in going back to the dung pile as Paul refers to his past as (Phil.3:8).

What did Peter see in his having Jesus:

1. Jesus has “the words of eternal life” - NO one else has the Words of Eternal Life (and Jesus is the giver of Eternal Life).

2. Peter had belief “we believe” and a knowing “are sure” that Jesus was the “CHRIST, the Son of the living God” or “the Holy one of God”. Interestingly the words “are sure” in the Greek mean to know experientially. Peter was saying I believe you are the CHRIST or the Holy one of God and I have experienced you as the CHRIST or the Holy one of God.

So in closing: Let those words of Peter ring in your ears
“to whom shall we go?" The answer is no where!
We have found Eternal Life and the Christ (the Messiah) and there is no one or where else to go. So next battle you go through, next time you run or fall, shake yourself off and get back to Jesus as all other roads are dead ends!
Stay with Jesus!

In Christ,
Jim
