"God will never leave you or forsake you"
Hebrews 13:5-6
13:5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
13:6 - So that we may boldly say,The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
I am going to insert some of the Greek meaning into these scriptures, and try to just expound on my main thought which is, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. This is a great passage and so much meaning and blessings to be received from it.
13:5 - Let your conversation (manner of life, behavior) be without covetousness (without love of money); and be content (to be satisfied) with such things as ye have (the things which are at present around one, namely, ones circumstances): for he hath said, I will never leave thee (never leave you helpless, never let you sink, never neglect you) nor forsake thee (desert, or abandon you in the midst of a hostile circumstance).
God admonishes us that our life should be without the Love of Money.
God admonishes us to be satisfied in ones present circumstances.
Why? Because our God, will never leave you, or forsake you!
God wants us to see we have HIM, why mess your life up with a craving for Money, when YOU have God! Money is happiness is a lie! But to know God is always with me (will never leave or forsake me), now that is JOY (beyond anything this world could ever offer me).
Also when it comes to circumstances (the unpleasant/hostile ones), what am I to do, be content or satisfied. Why? Because our God, will never leave you or forsake you. He will be with me and rescue me. That should bring a satisfaction that no negative circumstance can take away.
Now I would like to share something else about these few words:
"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
"Leave" is preceded by two negatives in the Greek text which in Greek only serve to strengthen the negation. Which means it would literally read "I will not, I will not leave (never leave you helpless, never let you sink, never neglect you) .............."
"Forsake" is preceded by three negatives, making the promise one of triple assurance. Which means it would literally read "I will not, I will not leave thee (never leave you helpless, never let you sink, never neglect you), I will not, I will not, I will not forsake thee (desert, or abandon you in the midst of a hostile circumstance).
So for simplicity it would read Literally something like this:
"I will not, I will not leave thee,
I will not, I will not, I will not forsake thee."
I don't know about you but when I repeat something in the same breath like in Praise to God, when I say, "I love you Lord, I love you Lord, I love you Lord", my heart is trying it's best to communicate the abundance of my love for the Lord, well that is what God is doing in speaking this to us, He is emphasizing to us the Abundance of Love/Security He offers us:
"I will not, I will not leave thee,
I will not, I will not, I will not forsake thee."
Get the point :)
Now that should give you assurance in your Relationship with the Lord!
In closing:
The outcome of understanding verse 5 is the Bold/Courageous proclamation found in verse 6 - "So that we may boldly (courageously, full of hope and confidence) say,The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
I hope today this passage has encouraged you in your walk with the Lord and of the unfailing love and security the Lord offers the Christian!
Closing Poem:
Never a burden that He does not carry,
Never a sorrow that He does not share;
Whether the days may be sunny or dreary,
Jesus is always there.
