"Satan is no match for the Word of God"
Main Text Matthew 4:1-11

v.1 - Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. v.2 - And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. v.3 - And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. v.4 - But he answered and said,
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Jesus quoted from Deut. 8:3) v.5 - Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, v.6 - And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (Satan quoted part of Psalm 91:11-12) v.7 - Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (Jesus quoted from Deut. 6:16) v.8 - Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; v.9 - And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. v.10 - Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Jesus quoted from Deut. 6:13, 10:20) v.11 - Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. - Matthew 4:1-11

This message is so simple and yet so powerful.

What a passage full of Bible Food to study and feed on but for today's purpose we will be looking at one of the main points in this passage. We will look at Jesus as our example of what He did when He was tempted in the wilderness by the devil.

Jesus our example:

First time Satan tempted Jesus what did He do?
He quoted the Word of God.

Then the second time Satan tempted Jesus what did He do?
He quoted the Word of God.

Side Thought:
Notice with the second temptation we see in verse 6 that Satan also tried to use scripture by quoting a portion of scripture, and he took it out of Biblical context and perverted it. This is how many are deceived today by listening to a lying voice (in their head or through another person) perverting the Word of God. This is how cults operate today and how they lead many down a path of lies, by getting people to listen to misinterpretation of the scripture (out of context or without looking at the whole counsel of God).

Then the third and final time when Satan tempted Jesus what did He do?
He quoted the Word of God.

What was His response each time the devil tempted Him, it was always
“It is written” and then He would quote the scripture to the devil. If Jesus had to use the “it is written” (i.e., the Word of God) when dealing with the devil surely we need to do the same.

The devil is NO match for the Word of God,
but if you try to beat the devil
without the Word of God he will whip you EVERY time.

In closing I reiterate that just as Jesus defeated Satan with the TRUTH of the Word of God. This is how we too must come against the temptations of the devil by having the Truth of the Word of God abiding in us and being ready to strike the devil with it whenever he tempts us (comes against us).

We could have looked at other points in this passage and
other scriptures that also show how powerful the Word of God
is, but I felt today was to just emphasize the one point that
"Satan is no match for the Word of God!!!!"
