Welcome.
I don't
know if genealogy is a hobby or obsession!
My sons
vote for obcession.
Check
out the LINKS below. There are several basic links to other great research sites including Cindy's Genealogy Page, the only resource a web genealogist really needs!.
Much of
my research centers in the Southeast for the surname SINGLETON, Pre 1800's,
in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and
Kentucky.
My personal
Singleton line is in Lincoln/Pulaski Co., KY from the 1780's.
I also
research heavily the surname VEST. It also is found prinarily in
the southeast. I have been successful enough to find all my Great-Great
Grandparents with one exception. If anyone hapens upon the parents
of John W. LENOIR, born about 1872, possibly in France, married Marie Alida
NECK of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana and lived in Lake Charles, LA
PLEASE contact me!
I serve
as listowner for 2 RootsWeb e-mail lists, SINGLETON
and VEST.
If either of these surnames holds interest for you, Please join. The Singleton
list has been going for several years, the Vest list started in July, 1997.
Just click on the name above and type in the word SUBSCRIBE in the body
of the message. Don't put a subject or anything else in the message.
You will get a file telling you about the group. We'll be glad to
have you. On my lists the rules are simple. Be nice, never
flame, never send attachments to the list, share and ask questions.
To see the general rules for the lists read the VEST
Information page. The Singleton list operates the same way.

During the Irish Potato Famine quite a few folks with the surname SINGLETON came to New York, USA. See a list HERE.
The SINGLETON name appears to have originated in the very early British Isles. Click here for a page devoted to "Singleton's of the UK".
There were Singleton's all over America by the time the first census in 1790 was taken. Here is Singleton census information from North Carolina.
If you have transcribed Singleton information form any source please send it in the format it should be displayed to Tom Land and I will display it on a page similar to this. I hope to eventually have all states covered.

Room to grow!
May soft be the grass you walk on,
May fair be the skies above you,
May true be the joys that surround you,
May dear be the hearts that love you.
