Official residence of each Venetian ruler(doge) was founded in the 9th century. Present palace built in the 14th and 15th centuries.. The Venetians broke with tradition by perching the bulk of the building (built in Veronese pink marble) fretwork of loggias and arcades built of Istrian stone.
