The History Of Gargoyles

"Legend has it that gargoyles ward off evil spirits"

These often grotesque and sometimes whimsical stone creatures were originally found on cathedrals, used to direct rain water away from the masonry of the building. They were given hideous visages in hopes that they would scare away evil evil spirits. Gargoyles have such wonderful character that they are beloved by all, and make an interesting conversational piece to any room.

These scary to some creatures are good doers. They protect the people in their home, castles and apartments. Were they ever real, no one seems to think so, yet I have found that most ideas come from some truth.

A gargoyle is a grotesquely carved human or animal figure carved on an architectural sturcture. Gargoyle comes from the French word "gargouille", meaning "pipe or throat". They later became strictly ornamental.
