About My Family & Me . . .

Hey, we've all heard family stories about our famous ancestors . . . right?   As a child, at every family gathering, the old folks would go on and on about our heroic ancestor, Colonel William Barrett Travis of Alamo fame.  I use to swell with pride each time I heard the story about my ancestor's great, historic deeds.  My parents 'generation took pride in the fact that cousin Merle Travis made it "big" as a County Western singer . . . although since his fame, "he became standoffish."  In my generation, I was thrilled when a new, hot County Western Music sensation burst onto the charts . . . Randy Travis.  He just had to be a cousin!  All of my family tended to be musically inclined . . . plus, he looked just like my older brother.

So, it was with the tales of these notable folks that I began my family search.  In just a little over a year, I have found absolutely no connection to Colonel William Barrett Travis.  However, my knowledge of the historic events surrounding his fame have been greatly expanded.  As for cousin Merle . . . no connection so far.  And cousin Randy . . . he really isn't a Travis after all!  However, in my search I have found some wonderful Travis cousins and a solid beginning to building a mighty Travis family tree.

To be continued . . .
