* Suggest that your impaired friend spend the night.
This sounds very inconvenient, but you could be saving somebody's life.
* Have your friend take a taxi. If they don't have the money pay for the ride yourself. It's hard to object to a free ride.
* Whatever you do, don't give in.
Friends don't let friends drink and then drive.
* HOT CRAN-APPLE CIDER: 2 QTS. apple cider, 3-inch cinnamon sticks, 1 1/2 QTS.
cranberry cocktail, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 tsps. whole cloves. Heat to boiling; reduce heat and
simmer between 15-20 minutes. Strain. MAKES 25 SERVINGS.
* SPICED CIDER: 1 QT. apple cider, 12 whole cloves, 1 1/2 cup sugar, 2(4-inch) cinnamon
sticks, Dash of salt, 8 whole allspice; Combine all ingredients in a 2-qt. saucepan. Bring to a boil,
stirring until all the sugar dissolves. Cool; Refrigerate covered for several hours. Just before serving,
reheat slowly. Strain to remove spices. Serve hot. MAKES 8 SERVINGS.
* COFFEE EGGNOG: 2 eggs, separated; 1 TBSP vanilla extract; 1/3 cup sugar; 2 cups milk,
chilled; 1/3 cup instant coffee; 1 cup heavy cream, whipped, Dash of salt, Shaved unsweetened
chocolate; In a small bowl, beat egg whites on high until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in sugar
until stiff peaks form. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks until they are lemon colored. Gradually
beat in the coffee, salt, vanilla, milk, and 3/4 cup of water. Stir in egg-white mixture and whipped
cream; mix well. Serve well chilled, with chocolate sprinkled over each serving. MAKES 12
SERVINGS.
* Drive with no headlights, or possible with their lights on bright.
* Drive with their face too close to the windshield.
* Zig-zag across the road or drive into the other lane.
* Drive slower than 10 m.p.h. below the speed limit.
* Use turn signals that are inconsistent with driving actions.
* Stop in a traffic lane.
* Forget traffic signals if you are following the vehicle.
* Follow too closely; The driver may stop suddenly.
* Attempt to keep the driver if he/she stops.
* Give the exact location (street or road and direction in which the vehicle is traveling.)
* Give an accurate description of the car (color, make, model, and license plate number.)
* Describe how the vehicle is being driven.
* Be willing to give your name and number, and if necessary to testify! This helps the police if they were unable to witness the actual driving.
* NEVER drink and drive and NEVER allow a friend to drink and drive.
* Speak out against alcohol and other drug-impaired driving in your community.
* Support legislation to reform the drunk driving laws.
* Designate a driver BEFORE you leave the house if your outing may involve drinking.
AND . . . encourage your friends to always do the same.
