Berrima Patchwork is located opposite the pub on the Old Hume Highway. Tell your husband it is halfway between Canberra and Sydney! (it's not quite, but...)
I love visiting this shop - it is pure eye candy for the country quilter. A very good range of country style fabrics, and good displays of quilts which come as kits and/or patterns. This shop also has many, many paper patterns from Indygo Junction, City Stitcher, Country Friends and Woodcutters Daughter. Heaps of quilt hangers as well.
Berrima Patchork offers classes, often for whole weekends. If you call, I'm sure they will send you their newletter with the class listings. If you get the chance while you are in the shop, take a peek in their classroom - there are fantastic quilts hanging on the wall.

Country Patchwork
Stockists of Kindred Spirits. Well laid out, easy to move around and browse. If out of stock of an item, willing to take your name and mail order. Good for country wall hanging ideas.

GOULBURN

If you go to the Visitors Centre (tourist info) in Sloane Street they will give you a map of Goulburn and will probably be able to mark the shops you want on the map for you. And if you're looking for a place for a yummy lunch I can recommend The Greengrocer Cafe in Clifford Street (the block between Auburn and Bourke Streets).

Patch on Bourke
Bourke Street, fairly close to the corner of Bourke and Clinton Streets.
It's in a little house, and Judy has a sign on the front with the business name.
It's a great shop - I can heartily recommend it.

The Sewing Patch
Auburn St
opposite Centro Goulburn mall (used to be called Argyle Mall).

Shelley's Sewing Centre
Huntley Arcade
Not a lot of fabric in there, but some knitting yarns, embroidery threads, etc

Goulburn Country Patchwork
126a Auburn St
Ph: 02- 4822 0704
Fx: 02- 4822 7738
Just a little shop, but with a nice range of cloth dolls, stitcheries and country quilt ideas, not a bazillion fabrics.
Books patterns
Coming into Goulburn from the Sydney side there is a sign saying "Curtains.Patchwork." but that shop has closed and the shop space is for lease - Goulburn Country Patchwork is further on. This charming little shop has a good range of stitchery and cloth doll patterns and some patchwork fabrics in country style and classics such as tickings. There are lots of samples to see in quilts, cloth dolls and stitcheries, so it may take you longer to look around than the size of the shop may suggest. The samples are very attractively arranged. Packaged patterns are from a variety of Australian and US designers such as Wendy Brigg, Up in Annie's Room, Dizzy Frizzy; and there are also some patterns designed by the shop.

NOWRA

Jukejema Quilting Barn
64 Kinghorne Street, near Dymocks.
02 44212577
They only have a fairly small range of fabrics as yet (well, naturally!) but are getting more soon. It is a lovely little shop (although not a barn) with very friendly staff. They are running classes.

2)What I liked about this shop was its warm and inviting country decor. While there's not a massive range of quilting fabrics, there are some well-chosen ranges with the latest fabrics made into quilts and decorator items so you can see what they look like. Lots of gift items including bears, quilt kits, fun carry bags, and the latest quilt and stitchery books. But one of the best things this gal does is carry a lot of patterns and kits by Australian designers, all packaged in an enticing way that makes you want to buy them all!
Well worth a visit if you're on holiday down there. BTW, in the same street, there's a regular fabric shop with some patchwork fabrics and on the other side of the road, there's a wool shop so plenty to choose from.

June Weatherstone is the proprieter - she is one of the organisers of the annual Braidwood quilt exhibition where the quilts are hung from the balconies of the lovely old buildings on the main street of Braidwood.
June has a large range of fabrics, many quite unusual. Very good quality - so not really bargain priced. One of the few shops I've found with still a good range of "bug" fabrics.

NAROOMA

Pepper Lane Designs
163 Princes Highway, Narooma, 2546
telephone: 02 4476 1378.
Cathy Pepper keeps a small range of fabrics, kits (Cricket Collection, Juniper Designs, Prairie Schooler and Told in the Garden) and apparently runs classes.
I found Cathy friendly - she is either an American or Canadian now living in Australia. She has actually been there for quite some time - in fact my husband reminded me of the shop as I had had him stop there on our last trip about 2 or 3 years ago.

MERIMBULA

Mandeni Needlecraft
Sapphire Coast Drive, P.O.Box 475
(02) 64959651
Set in the grounds of the Mandeni Resort, the Needlecraft shop is extemely new, clean and spacious. Fabrics are varied and extremely well priced. Some fat quarters for $3.50 of very good quality. I found some wonderful books at reduced prices because of damaged covers, so it is well worth the visit for specials. If you are staying in the area, there are short courses and the staff are very helpful. Lovely setting and lots to look at.
