Continuous line patterns, suitable for long arm quilting machines, some designs are suitable for short arm quilting machines. The designs are suitable for domestic machine quilting. These patterns are readily adaptable to applique. I specialise in Australiana designs - Fauna and Flora. The patterns are mostly in A4 size, some A3 size. Also have a Pirates and Treasure set as it is often difficult to find designs that are suitable for boys. web page is not up to date, so if you would like further information do not hesitate to contact Janice personally.

IMAGES IN APPLIQUE - 2 days
This workshop will teach you to turn any of your own photographs into a larger fabric picture. We use only tools which are easily available, and no drawing skills are necessary. It is far too short - but will give you a good idea of the process.
IMAGES IN APPLIQUE EXTENDED - 4 or 5 days
The first two days of this class is the same as the two day Images in Appliqué class. In the second stage we have a chance to finish and extend the image, to look at possibilities for making the quilt so much more exciting, and to extend the image. This could be with blocks, further images, or by placing it in a wall as a window or a picture.
FREE MACHINE QUILTING - 1 day
This class is designed to teach you to do wonderful free machine quilting with the feed dogs down.
HAND APPLIQUE WITH SPRAY STARCH - 2 day
In this class you will learn to use hand applique with spray starch in a technique which I find easier than traditional needleturn.
PLAYING WITH KALEIDOSCOPES - 2 day
This class plays with the versatile kaleidoscope block and scrap fabrics in several colour ranges to produce a variety of whirling patterns in a stunning quilt
PIECES OF EIGHT - 2 day
This class will teach you a quick way to make half square triangles, and show you several ways to use this technique to produce a variety of shimmering quilts.
BROKEN STAR - I day
This class teaches the same eight half-square triangle system as Pieces of Eight, but covers fewer design principles, concentrates on one dramatic quilt and makes it in one day.

JAPANESE FABRIC AND MAGAZINES...NSW

For those of you who love Japanese fabrics and patchwork, this might be of interest. There is a Japanese bookstore in Neutral Bay on Young Street, near Grosvenor Street that sells Japanese quilt magazines for between $18 and $40. They also have quilting books from the US that are translated into Japanese.

Country by Design in Mosman has just gotten in some blue and white Japanese fabrics. I saw about 5 different bolts when I was there for a class.

WOOL BATTING... NSW

This one can be bought from Broughton Cottage
Hill St Camden
046 55 8421
They do mail order, but sorry no catalogues at this stage. If you shop around you can find it for about $8.00 a metre, if memory serves me right the Janome shop at Burwood sells it for this price.

FURNITURE POLISH AND POTPOURRI... VICTORIA

Auroma,
Melverton Drive,
Hallam (south/east of Melbourne)
Ph: (03) 9796- 4833
I make up a similar Beeswax Polish to Jan's, but I add a little Lavender or Rose Geranium oil to it. The furniture all smells lovely, with just a hint of Lavender/Rose and is also great on leather furniture! If anyone is interested in essential oils, dried roses buds for pot pourri, spice mats etc, etc there is a great range here (they also do mail order, although some products can't be posted) - I buy a kilo of tiny dried rose buds for around $15 and believe me, a kilo goes a long, long way. They also have Australian Pot Pourri which is great inside a Patchwork cushion for OS visitors. I have no affiliation with Auroma - am just a regular customer.

HAND-DYED SILK THREAD...VICTORIA

Mary Hart Silks
I thought it was worth looking in Inspirations magazine and there it was. "The Kacoonda Range of embroidery threads are hand-dyed by Mary-Hart Davies" it says. They are available from Kacoonda Enterprises, PO box 6 Somers, Victoria 3927. Ph 059 83 5506. I feel really excited. This must be what a group like this is all about.

EMBROIDERY...VICTORIA

MALVERN EAST

Bustle & Bows
301 Wattletree Rd, Malvern East.
Lovely embroidery supplies - changed hands about a year ago, so I am presuming same high quality. I bought some congress cloth there - unable to buy it in NZ and had sent to the States for it.)

SURREY HILLS

Bustle & Bows
Union Road
Original shop of the two (see above) owned and operated by Shirley Sinclair.
Beautiful shop, with inspirational projects on display and a multitude of lovely needlework tools and materials. SURREY HILLS has a particular emphasis on smocking, heirloom sewing, stumpwork and ribbon embroidery. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. No affils, but this is my FAVOURITE shop (and my 5yo daughter knows we always visit the party shop next door for a special treat for her after B&B).

HAWTHORN

Bargello
819 Glenferrie Road
- lovely canvas embroidery kits, tapestries, cross stitch etc. If you enjoy stitching, worth a visit.

FURNISHING FABRIC...VICTORIA

CAMBERWELL

Liberty of London Furnishing Shop
Burke Rd
They have furnishing offcuts in a couple of baskets. They were not too heavy for some types of patchwork but would be easier to machine quilt than hand quilt. I got what must have been on of their sample books and the pieces in it were about fat quarter sized, 38 all together for $4!!
