The find of the year Aug 1997 A friend had located it and dragged us there.
It is in the back streets of Rydalmere. You park in a suburban street and approach
a smallish looking weatherboard house. My friend, in the lead, trooped us up
the driveway, around the back and through a yard filled with a caravan, some
cats, a few chooks and a whole lot of birds in cages. She took us up to a broken
down looking shed and inside I discovered Sylvia Smith (owner) and about 5,000
bolts of material. She has it all. All the Jinny Beyer's, Hoffmans, 30s and
just about anything else you could name. It all starts at about $7.00 a metre.
The only thing in the place over $14.00 /m was some stuff that was 108" wide.
There are fat quarters from $1.00 - and no it isn't junk. She will cut anything
you like into fat quarters. It was amazing. The service was great, Sylvia and
a young male assistant could not have been more helpful. They said they would
open by appointment on Thursday night and Sunday if they had to. They also do
heaps of mail order. They send out swatches of just about anything. I asked
about swatches and was handed a bag of them on my way out. For the faint hearted,
you will have to deal with a few things. There was a cat lying on the counter
where they cut the material and serve the customers. Sylvia seems to be a smoker
and the light in one corner wasn't great. These were the only problems I could
find, but it would never stop me from going back again (and again and again).
