Myotonic Meat Goats(Tennessee Fainting goats)
The growth of the meat goat industry has been enhanced by a little-known breed of American goat, known as the Myotonic, or Tennessee Fainting Goat. This goat is slightly shorter than a Boer, but the food cost is less. They seem to have more muscle per square inch of animal. The curious thing about this animal is the tendency to be easily startled. If you clap your hands or make a sudden loud noise, the goats will freeze up and fall over. Hence the name Fainting goat. It doesn't seem to hurt them in any way, and they aren't out of it for very long, but the looks of people's faces when the goats fall over would win an award! They are sometimes displayed at county fairs, but due to their nature, it is rather hard on them. So the best way to see one is to go to a farm that has one. Here are some links to Tennessee (Myotonic)Fainting Goat sites.
