Playing video clips from our home page

  • General

I've placed numerous video clips throughout our home pages.  You came to this page for a more detailed explanation about the Microsoft Media Player or the Intel AVI Codec.  Welcome!

  • Types of video clips

There are several formats of video clips, just as there are several makes and models of cars on the road.  Some video clips are crisp and clean, while others seem like you're watching a 1950's claymation movie.  If you've watched any video clips from the web, then you know what I mean.

There are 3 very popular PC video formats around today (That I'm aware of).

  • .MOV files.  These are .MOV files, which are viewed with the the Apple QuickTime  Viewer.  Although this format originated for the Apple, you can also view them from your PC with the proper software.  I'm not too familiar with this format, so I personally don't know much about it's pros and cons.  Nor do I use this format within our home page.
  • .MPG (Or, .MPE or .MPEG) files.  These files are MPEG files, and are best viewed with the Microsoft Media Player.  The Microsoft Media Player is my personal choice (Although there are other MPEG viewers), because it's free, it works great, and it does a lot more than just view your MPEG files.  MPEG files are usually much smaller than .AVI files, but can appear grainy or pixelated if not converted properly.  You can get the Windows Media Player by clicking here and following the instructions.

Woo-hoo!  I've finally found a great tool called Main Actor that does a great job of converting .AVI files to .MPG files.  It creates a very clear, smooth video clip from the .AVI file, but at less than half the size of the .AVI file.  Next payday (Or, sooner), I'm purchasing this software so I can convert all of the .AVI files within our home page to .MPG files.  Soon, there won't be any mention of needing the Intel AVI Codec, which makes it easier for all of us.

  • Viewing our video clips

First off, if you haven't already, go to the Microsoft link above, install the Windows Media Player, and begin enjoying the internet to it's fullest potential.  With this software, you can view our video clips and a whole lot more.  And, I mean a WHOLE lot more.  With this software, you can listen to radio stations not in your area through the internet, and even view online events (Concerts, news, etc. etc.) complete with video.  It really is a new world to explore.

Anyway, once you've installed this software, viewing our video clips is easy.  Just click where I tell you to, and in a few minutes, the video will download to your computer, and the Windows Media Player will automatically play the video for you.  Very neat.

We hope you enjoy the video clips we've placed throughout our home page.  Yes, they take a few extra minutes of time to load, but I think they're worth it.  Of course, you be the judge.

We've had visitors to this page.
