  • A week in San Francisco for Steve
As most of you know, I work in a field that is very technical in nature.

And, as most of you already know, I'm an Oracle DBA (Do About Anything - actually Data Base Administrator).

Anyway, as new revisions of the Oracle RDBMS (Relational Data Base Management System) and Oracle Applications are released, I need additional technical training.

Every year, Oracle holds a conference called Oracle Open World where tens of thousands of people just like me (Computer Geeks) gather to learn more about the Oracle products.

Because Oracle is headquartered in California, Oracle Open World is normally held in Los Angeles or San Francisco.

This year, it was held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

After leaving Charlotte early on a Saturday morning (To save the company money on plane fare - $400 (With a Saturday stay over) versus $1,700), I arrived in San Francisco around 11:00 local time.

I was able to visit most of the tourist attractions, but missed some of the more interesting sites like Muir Woods and the Alcatraz Tour because I forgot to plan ahead.

But, not all was lost.  I was able to visit quite a few places, as you can see.

Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli chocolate factory, riding a cable car, watching the sea lions,  and other tourist activities were done on Saturday and Sunday.

As you can see from the snap shots above, San Francisco is an enjoyable place for a tourist, such as myself, to visit.

  • Micah LOVES to Cook

Micah has developed a passion for cooking.

Every time you step into the kitchen, you'll hear a chair being dragged across the floor, followed shortly by the words "Can I help you cook?".

Micah has learned how to stir things on the stove, mix ingredients, and can even crack eggs.

OK, I'm not saying you don't occasionally find a piece of egg shell, I'm just saying that Micah can crack eggs!

  • Halloween at the Hughes's

Of course, we've got video, and pictures of our Halloween evening.

Brad almost didn't dress up for Halloween, as he felt he was getting a little too old for it.

I think some of his friends dressing up convinced him otherwise.

Brad finally decided that he wanted to dress up as Charlie Brown.

But, after an extensive, exhaustive search (And, I do mean extensive and exhaustive) we were unable to find a Charlie Brown costume.

So, Brad dressed up as Chad Musky, a professional skate boarder.

He's one of the selectable characters in Tony Hawk Pro Skater, a video game we play on our Nintendo 64 system.

Clint, after a few years of being the most awesome Captain Hook you've ever seen, chose a Cyclops costume, from the movie X-Men.

Why?  We have no idea, as he's not seen the movie, but he thought the costume looked "way cool".

He liked the mask, along with it's red tinted see through window.

Micah chose to be a frog this year.

He fell in love with his costume one day while we were browsing the sales rack at Old Navy.

He enjoyed being a frog, and pretended to jump like a frog for most of the evening (Yes, of course it got annoying after a while).

As you can see, Micah, as well as the other boys, enjoyed their evening.

  • More video clips coming your way (As you can already tell)

Finally, I'm being able to provide more video clips than in the past thanks to our Road Runner Cable Modem, a static (Doesn't change) IP address, and a web server running on my home PC.

In the past, I've had to pay an additional fee to GeoCities each month to host my web site.  They give you 10 Mb. of web space to start out with.  Each additional 5 Mb. of space costs you $4.95 each month.

Well, video clips are rather large in size, with a 10 second video clip usually consuming about  2.7 Mb. of disk space. A quick math calculation, and you can see I quickly ran out of storage space on GeoCities for video clips!

Anyway, I've now have enough space for hundreds upon hundreds of video clips for your enjoyment.  If you've got the time to download them, I've got the space to host them.

We've had visitors to this page.
