My work has basically been the descendants of Joseph [Sowther] SOUTHER of Boston, Massachusetts. He is the first proven SOUTHER of my line in America. He was born around 1637 in England. It is not known how or why he came to America. It may have been for religious reasons or just for a better life with more freedom for his family like so many other families of that time. I have a copy of his original will written in 1696. I have successfully proven almost 4,000 Southers as descendants of this one man.
There was also a Henry SOUTHER of German descent who came to America in the 18th Century via the Virginia Colony. If this is your line, I may be able to help you make a connection. There has also been reported a John H. SOUTHER of Bloomington, Illinois who was born in Württemberg, Germany. To date I have not found anyone with any connection to this man. I also have one other "German" line. Descendants of Thadeus Sauter of Württemberg, Germany and a Canadian line which are descendants of John Souther of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada (originally from England). I also have several small groups of "unattached" Souther that I have not found where they fit into the family tree. I am now working on the "final" edition and hope that you will be able to help me. If all goes well, it will be ready for release in July 2005.

As most of you know, a genealogy is never really completed. If you are a SOUTHER or a SOUTHER descendant I would really appreciate hearing from you.
