In doing research on my husband’s family, I have found a family who basically had their American roots in South Carolina.
Since South Carolina did not require the
recording of records, except for deeds, until the late 1800s and early 1900s;
it is hard to prove without a doubt the origin of some of the families.
I have spent countless hours, researching
books, libraries, courthouses, etc. for any bit of information I could
find. I feel at this point that I have
gone as far as I can with this family.

3. Johann Georg2 SOUTER (Johann Georg1); b. circa 1740 in Germany; m. Francis "Fanny" AUTZ circa 1765 in Fairfield, South Carolina. He immigrated to America in 1764 on a ship named Boston arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Rotterdam on 30 Nov 1764. He American name became John George SOUTER, Jr. and also known as George SOUTER. The immigrant ancestor of this line. Note: One report says he was born circa 1755.
Francis "Fanny" AUTZ was born in Germany.

Jacob LEVER was born in 1766 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina. He died in Oct 1796 in Richland County, South Carolina.
The two known children of Mary3 SOUTER and Jacob LEVER both b. in Cedar Creek, South Carolina, were as follows:

Catherine Barbara or Barbary "Katie" SMITH, daughter of Stephen SMITH and Mary Eve HAMITER, 1808 in Richland, Fairfield, South Carolina; d. 12 Feb 1821 in Richland, Fairfield, South Carolina. George is buried in the Old Souter Place, Fairfield County, South Carolina.
The Will of George SOWTER / SOUTER, Jr. was dated 6 Feb 1821 and gives his household and plantation tools and stock to his wife Catherine Barbara SOUTER. After her death to his three sons, John, Daniel, George Wesley; and for them to make up to his two daughters, Fanny and Charlot an equal part. The Will was filed 16 Feb 1821.
Catherine Barbara or Barbary "Katie" SMITH was born on 17 Apr 1788 in Richland, Fairfield, South Carolina. She died on 7 Sep 1881 in Richland District, Fairfield, South Carolina, at age 93. She Catherine is buried in Pine Grove Church Cemetery, Upper Richland County, South Carolina.
Catherine's Will was dated 3 Oct 1874 and mentioned her daughter Francis HENDRIX whom she left all of the plantation lying on Bigg Ceder Creek containing 160 acres and at Francis's death then the plantation was to go to her granddaughter Charlott C. LEITNER. To son Daniel SOUTER she gave $5.00 and to her son G. W. SOUTHER $5.00 and to daughter Charlott LEITNER $5.00 and half of Catherine's cloting and bedding. The Will was filed with the courts on 12 Aug 1882.

Charlotte TURNIPSEED was born on 29 Jan 1814. She died on 25 Sep 1845 at age 31. She Charlotte's surname in German is: REPSAMAN. She is buried in the Souther-Turnipseed Cemetery in Richland County, South Carolina.

Priscilla TURNIPSEED was born in 1815 in Richland District, South Carolina. She died on 31 Oct 1879 in Columbia County, Arkansas.
