The reason we had to go to the 5th generation before assigning most colors is that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Joseph Souther each had only one son that carried on the line. The 2nd generation, John had quite a few sons that carried on the line, thus he was given a color right away.
We also have some other color lines which haven't been proven to be connected to our line yet. They will be listed after the Joseph Souther descendants.
|
John SOUTHER married first to Sarah BURRILL and they had 6 children: Elizabeth; Eunice, Loise; John, Joseph and Nathaniel SOUTHER. He married second to Mary PARKER but there was no issue of this marriage.
This line was a family "on the move"! Almost immediately the family headed north, first to Charlestown and then up to Haverhill. Several generations later they had headed west and for a long time resided in the Springfield, Illinois and Saint Louis, Missouri areas. There are descendants that live there to this day.
Today there are known to be 140 GREEN line Souther living in across America. The biggest concentrations are in California, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota and Washington.

The BLUE line also gave us "Our Hero", Francis Lincoln SOUTHER, the 1st victim of enemy fire to be killed in the Civil War from Massachusetts and possibly the Union.

Some where in some place and time we may all have a common ancestor. The SOUTHERs that have long resided in the southern states, especially if your roots are from North Carolina and Georgia, all seem to be of Germany ancestry and descended from Henry SOUTHER who arrived on these shores via the Virginia Colony. A Database of all of these Southers is nearing completion which will enable me to help you find these ancestors as well. If you are from this line of SOUTHERs and would like help tracing your family lines, or if you can provide a line of contemporary family members that I am missing, PLEASE contact me. We want you to know your family history......

All of the Brown line are descended from Thadeus SAUTER, (1796-c. 1847) of Hirschau, Württemberg, Germany who emmigrated to American in 1832 where he and his family settled in Ohio. Of their 11 children, the last 4 were born in America and started using "SOUTHER" as the spelling of their name. Most of the research on this line of the family is attributed to researcher, Kenneth Lothair Souther.
