This started out as a larger version of the photo below. I felt that it looked like a scene from long ago and wondered how it would look as an old colorized sepia photo. First I used the clone tool to take the road out, then I greyscaled it. Next I colorized it to give it a sepia look. Then I colored the brown and green trees (each on separate layers) and adjusted blend modes and transparency. After that I used Paint Engine to give it that 'painted' look and made the background and frame to put around it.
