Why, What and How to Pray for Missionaries

Why

  1. The missionary is invading enemy territory
  2. The missionary faces many frustration
  3. The missionary has need of self-knowledge
  4. The loneliness of the missionary

What to pray for missionaries

  1. The missionary's need of stability, spiritually, mentally, emotionally.
  2. The missionary's insight needs to be sharpened: sympathy for needs.
  3. The missionary's interpersonal relationships
  4. The missionary's need to be filled with the Holy Spirit
  5. The missionary's health problems
  6. The missionary's travel: safety
  7. The missionary's children
  8. The missionary's need to show love.
  9. Share the missionary's burden for additional workers, both national and foreign, that more will make "His last command their first concern".
  10. The missionary's own intercessory life that they take them to pray for every aspect of the work.

How do you pray for missionaries?

  1. Be specific, systematic, and steadfast in praying for definite needs
  2. Agree in prayer with others - the "two" or "three" of Matthew 18:19-20
  3. Practice saturation praying - covering many aspects with many brief requests.
  4. Pray as for yourself. Any problems you have, the missionary may also have, but it will be aggravated by his situation and circumstances.
  5. Pray with the authority you have in Christ, and bind the strong man. (Matthew 18:18, Mark 3:27)
  6. Try using a passage of Scripture when you are praying for your missionary, such as Eph 1:15-19, Col 1:9-12, Eph. 3:14-21.
