This book was written to help build understanding between Catholics and other Christians. Many Catholics today have family members who are Christians of other denominations. This is often a cause of distress within the family. Can those family members who are not Catholic be saved, especially if they’ve rejected the faith they were baptized into? The other Christians, in turn, often having been converted to Bible-alone forms of Christianity, wonder if their Catholic relatives can be saved. This situation made me wonder, “What does the Bible teach about salvation?” Yes, there are a few often-quoted verses about faith and baptism, etc., but what does the whole Bible say about salvation?
This book is largely the result of a computer search which found all the verses in the Bible that contain such words and phrases as “salvation,” “save,” “saved,” “kingdom,” and “eternal life.” These Scripture quotes were then expanded upon by combing through the new Catechism of the Catholic Church and several works on apologetics mentioned in the Suggested Reading list at the end of the book.
In this book you will find a selection of representative verses on the topic of salvation from the whole Bible, giving a wider perspective than is usual. The sections on Catholic teaching are taken mostly from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, where the reader is encouraged to go for more thorough teaching. The reader is also urged to go deeper into the Scriptures—to set aside this book and pick up the Bible whenever the Holy Spirit prompts. May the LORD Himself bring you to the fullness of joy as you prayerfully reflect on the good news of salvation.
