Edmond Larwood, son of John Edmond Larwood and Elizabeth Mills; was probably born in NC ca 1750;
apparently he lived in VA for a long time before moving to near
Sagetown, in Laurens Co SC. The name of his wife has not been found; The 1800C of SC shows:
Edmond Learwood, Laurens Co : 2 males age 16-26; 1 male 45 or over;
1 female 16-26 and 1 female 45 or over. He is also found on
the 1790 Laurens Co SC Census listed as Edmond Wood with his household
consisting of 2 males +16, 2 males -16, and 4 females. Edmond Larwood
(Learwood) served in the Rev War, evidenced by the fact that he made claim,
1784, and was compensated for the loss of a horse, and paid for service
rendered in the State Militia before and since the fall of Charleston.
A Land Grant from William Moultrie, Governor of SC, to Edmond Learwood,
for 600 acres was executed 3 Oct 1784. Some old ledger records from
a store in Hazel Green, Madison Co, AL, were found which indicate Edmond
was there in 1828. It is apparent he left SC after the 1810 C; then
moved to Madison Co AL via TN. One of his sons had died by that time,
and another son, married, chose to stay in SC, as did one daughter.

Laurens Co SC. This son remained in
Laurens Co SC when his father and others of his family
moved west. From J. Wilbert Wood: "...deeds
recorded show that there was a change in the
family name from Learwood to Lear Wood, then
to L. Wood. Strange as it may seem, but the
change was not intentional. Edmond Learwood,
with one exception which was a very feeble
effort, always made his mark so it could be
read. The deeds naturally were written on his
verbal instructions, so they show a change
from Learwood to Lear Wood, then to L. Wood.
Then too, Edmond left only one son - John
- here (in SC) who, it is presumed could not read nor
write and he (as is shown by his son's - T.R.
Wood - family Bible) left the impression that the
name was L. Wood. T. R. Wood recorded
his children's births in the Bible with the capital
"L" Wood; however, the family was known as
"Wood".
