On 10 May 1633, Mary was granted administration of her father's will since the executrix, her step-mother, Frances (Hinton-West) Peirsey had died. Frances Peirsey md 3) ca 1628 Capt. Samuel Matthews. Since the Peirsey estate had not been settled by the executrix, an endless amount of trouble ensued, which created a considerable amount of correspondence with English authorities. Charges were made that Samuel Matthew had altered the estate and that while Peirsey "left the best estate ever known in Virginia", the orphan (Mary Hill) had hardly enough to feed herself and her two poor children, mentioned in the correspondence as a son and a daughter.
