THE JOSEPH FRENCH FAMILY

Joseph French, b Aug 1760 Hanover Co VA md 10 Jul 1783 Henry Co VA Judah Smith, b ca 1766 dau of Josiah Smith and Elizabeth Collier.  Joseph French resided in Goochland Louisa Co, VA, then to Henry Co, VA.  After the Revolution, to York Dist SC for 19 years, then back to Henry Co VA for one year, then to Knox Co TN and Blount Co TN for about 9 years, then to Overton Co TN in the part which is now Fentress Co.  He enlisted in the Revolution in Henry Co VA under Captain Dillard.  Judah French made application for pension on 4 Jan 1839 stating she was then 72 years of age, her oldest child, William, was 54.  Rebecca French, dau of Joseph and Judah French, states that she had four older brothers: William, Josiah, Thomas, and John French.
