Friday, Feb. 25, 1876: "Died near Mt. Hope on the 28th day of January with something like consumption, Leona Elkins, the youngest sister of our former Sheriff, Joseph N. Elkins.  Our young fried was born January 4th 1858, and died in the 18th year of her age.  Her parents died when she was quite young and the responsibility of parent devolved on her brother, J. N. Elkins, whom she seemed to reverence more as a Father than a Brother."

Thursday, Feb. 1, 1877: "Jos. N. Elkins was born April 19th 1841; professed religion in the summer of 1860 and joined the Town Creek Baptist Church, died January 26th 1877 - aged 35 years, 9 months and 21 days.  His funeral was preached at Town Creek Church on Sunday the 28th, by Rev. J. S. Gibson.  His body was then buried with Masonic honors by Mt. Hope Lodge."

Thursday, Sep. 22, 1881: "Died on the 24th of August 1881, Miss Mattie Elkins, daughter of William H. and Mattie Elkins.  The subject of this notice was born April the 17th, 1852, and professed faith in Christ and joined the Baptist Church, at Town Creek, in 1873."

Thursday, Jan. 20, 1887:  "We tender to Mr. and Mrs. John Elkins our sympathy in the loss of their darling baby, which died on Sunday morning last.  The father, accompanied by Tommy Roberson, carried the corpse to Cherokee for burial."

Thursday, May 12, 1887:  "Mrs. Stanley Elkins, a good woman and wife, recently died near Mt. Hope."

Thursday, June 9, 1887:  "Died, near Mt. Hope Alabama, April 18, 1882, Mrs. Callie Elkins.  She died of pneumonia.  She leaves a husband and four children and many relatives to mourn their loss."
